It was easy to book our e-bike experience with a simple phone call or you can book online. On arrival we parked the car in the free car park behind the shop and we were greeted by Wilbur the friendly black Labrador, who alerted Roger the owner of our arrival. Our e-bikes were ready and waiting for us and Roger’s attention to detail was second to none – typical of the personal touch you only get from a family run business. All the bikes available for hire are of the highest quality and feature powerful and efficient Bosch or Yamaha motors. We were given a quick lesson on how to use our e-bikes, which are so simple to operate. Roger then used his extensive expert knowledge of the Forest of Bowland to tailor a route that would be suitable for our level of ability. We were provided with a free map of the route and our helmets and off we went on our adventure!
The route that Roger gave us was absolutely perfect and saw us venture out into some of the most unspoilt beautiful countryside that this country has to offer. Around every corner we encountered stunning views of the Forest of Bowland and Ribble Valley. The e-bikes made it a pleasure to be out and dealt with the Bowland uphill climbs with ease. On one particular hill on Easington Lane, one of the steepest in the area, we encountered a group of club cyclists punishing themselves up the gruelling climb. We eased past them like we were riding on the flat and received some friendly banter about cheating on an e-bike! As we left them to their struggle, we replied: “No this isn’t cheating guys, this is the future!”
Onwards we travelled on what must be some of the quietest and safest lanes anywhere, it was like going back in time as we hardly saw a car. The route took in some of the region’s beautiful villages such as Slaidburn, Whitewell and Chipping where we stopped off at a local pub for a refreshing drink.
What a fantastic day out we had and one that we would recommend to anyone. The quality bikes supplied by Ribble Valley E Bikes at a very reasonable price, made the day a real pleasure.
