A New World Of Care…
Staying in your own home with high quality, respite and elderly care can be done. Kate Bowyer talks to Visiting Angels to find out more
Ninety-seven per cent of us would like to stay in our own home with the right level of comfortable, supportive care in our later years. But finding that level of affordable support for you or your loved ones can prove challenging.
That wish has now moved within easy reach for Clitheroe and Ribble Valley residents, with the opening of Visiting Angels East Lancashire’s Burnley headquarters. This national network of regionally-focused homecare experts are transforming the homecare landscape, putting true care for clients and staff at the heart of their practice.
MD Nassar Manzoor says the key to secure, comfortable homecare is matching happy, loyal staff with happy, settled clients: “Visiting Angels is a very different sort of provider to what has, unfortunately, become the norm. Recruiting locally and genuinely valuing our carers enables us to deliver unrushed, consistent high-quality home, respite and elderly care from care-givers who want to care, in an organisation which empowers them.”
Unique to the UK, each Visiting Angel paid working day includes all work travel time, paid above minimum wage as full employees, not short-term or zero hours contracts. This means no in-and-out, flying visits or racing the clock – a first?
“The carer-client relationship forms the heart of all we do,” says Nassar. “Giving our carers the respect, salary, time and trust to do their job enables us to recruit locally, and retain staff long-term. So, when a client chooses their caregiving team (as they do), they build a long-term relationship with people who understand and live within the same community, not a confusing rota of changing faces.”
With arrangements created around individual and family requirements, each is as unique as the client. Visiting Angels only stipulate one, welcome rule – no visit to be less than an hour. With no maximum length or number of visits, options like all-day company and accompanying to appointments and activities can be provided, as well as essentials including personal care, washing, medicine and meals.
No wonder Visiting Angels were awarded Best Company to Work For and Most Innovative Culture, at the recent UK Company Culture Awards 2024. Being based in the community and achieving a low staff turnover, unheard of elsewhere in the industry, enables them to offer exceptional care at remarkably competitive rates. They have also been awarded the Regional Business Awards 2024 Winner – Best Care Home Provider, Lancashire, from Business Awards UK.
“It’s certainly a fraction of care home costs, with the multiple benefits, comfort and peace of mind of staying in your own home,” says Nassar. “Our aim is that one day, all care will be like this, but until then, with Visiting Angels, it’s assured.”
