Coming from a family of entrepreneurs, Michael Oliver Hanson has turned his passion for cars into an enviable business in the Ribble Valley, writes Meena McDonald
Ribble Valley Wedding Cars Ltd is a luxurious wedding car business with an amazing fleet of magnificent cars dating from 1928 right through to modern vehicles, ranging from Bentleys to Rolls-Royces and Cadillacs.
All the vehicles are completely authentic and maintained to an exceptional standard throughout the year. Many have fascinating histories having originated and been acquired from across the globe.
Very recently Michael was commissioned by a client to provide two immaculate ivory Rolls-Royces, one a classic 1930s limousine convertible and the other from the 1980s.
Michael commented: “Once the wedding vows were performed and the ceremony complete, it was time to drive to the reception. The groom chose to take his guitar with him in the car. As the two cars journeyed through the glorious sun in the Ribble Valley and the champagne flowed, the groom started to sing ‘Mr Blue Sky’ to his beautiful new bride. As they drove through Whalley people on the main street stopped to cheer and wave at the happy couple, it really was a tremendous scene and truly sums up what we’re all about.”
The aim of the business is to make the day as unique and special as possible with every little detail considered and taken care of, from the personalised silk ribbons and the spectacular floral displays to the delectable hamper that is provided with each car.
The perfect package
Michael has teamed up with local supplier, KeiCo Drinks to provide their indulgent hampers containing a delightful collection of luxury gifts for couples to enjoy during their wedding day. The hampers can also be utilised as gifts for the bride and groom so guests can choose wonderful items that they know the couple will truly enjoy.
To complete the package Michael also offers his clients the opportunity of a perfect honeymoon at the Hanson Villa, Yalikavak. With its dreamy sunsets overlooking the Turkish Rivera it really is the idyllic setting for a honeymoon.
Tailored weddings
Living in the Ribble Valley, Michael knows he has a genuinely sophisticated audience who want to create the perfect day with every aspect being considered and delivered to the highest standard.
Whatever his clients’ tastes, Michael has something for everyone from extravagant glitzy weddings to very simple ones, fitting in with the required themes and styles the couple desire.
So, where does Michael’s passion for cars come from?
Michael was brought up with cars, with his dad being an avid racer from a young age and one of his grandparents being a driver of an airfield ambulance during World War Two for the famous Dambuster Squadron.
When Michael’s dad sadly lost his leg in his 20s, Michael’s grandfather bought him an automatic Rolls-Royce so he could drive it more easily and in comfort. This was completely rejected by Michael’s dad as it was far too sedate a vehicle for a man in his 20s!
Michael started collecting WW2 vehicles from a young age, and these have been hired out on many occasions for special events such as film works and his vehicles can be viewed in films such as Fury with Brad Pitt and TV series such as Heartbeat and The Darling Buds of May.
For as long as Michael can remember there has always been a Rolls-Royce in the family, along with a Lancaster bomber engine in the foyer of the company offices.
Over the years Michael has gathered a fleet of wedding cars worth well over a million pounds and is planning to continue adding to his fleet as the business expands. The demand for original authentic vehicles is tremendous as people are looking for the ‘real McCoy’ and and not just the replicas which are easily available.
