A ROARING SUCCESS

Olivia Beaty talks to Canterbury Fireplace’s Lucas Everett about how their outstanding reputation is spreading like fire

Tell me about Canterbury Fireplaces, how have you become the successful business you are today?
We have been installing fireplaces since the 1980s when stone fireplaces with built in hi-fi sets were all the rage! Styles, fashion and technology have changed a great deal since then and it’s important for us to keep up with this. We have therefore recently refurbished our showroom to accommodate the latest designs and technology. The majority of our business comes from recommendations, which is a really motivating factor, plus many existing customers return when they are moving home or are modernising.

Why do you think customers come to Canterbury over similar businesses?
Word of our outstanding reputation seems to be getting around which is lovely to hear. We pride ourselves on the highest level of service, and I truly believe that this is why customers come to Canterbury. It is incredibly important to me that throughout the whole process we provide an impeccable service. Secondly our showroom plays a big part in attracting the customers, we know they want to be able to see and touch the products therefore we have over 100 live fireplaces and stoves on display for them to browse in our relaxed environment, they can enjoy a hot drink whilst seeking advice from our expert team.

Is there a trend towards a particular kind of fireplace at the moment?
I would certainly say wood burners and multi-fuel stoves are proving very popular at the minute. Gathering in front of a fire dates back thousands of years and it is in our nature to do so. In the recent bitter weather what better way to warm up and relax than in front of a wood burning stove. A contributing factor to its popularity is also probably the increase in the price of gas, wood burning is seeming like a very good alternative.

Having started off as an apprentice before going on to achieve full gas engineer status and becoming company director you clearly have a wealth of knowledge. Tell me about the popular wood burning stoves.
I now have over 15 years of hands-on experience so yes I know a fair bit! As well as the aesthetics of the beautiful flame, they give off an unrivalled amount of heat and are very efficient to use, not to mention carbon friendly! We offer a wide range of stoves from traditional to ultra-modern and contemporary Scandinavian stoves. Our popular brands include Stovax, Yeoman, Charlton and Jenrick, Dovre, Nordpies, Lotus and Esse.

The future looks bright for Canterbury Fireplaces do you have any future plans?
We will continue to update our showroom and are always looking at ways we can improve our service without losing our personal touch. Having one of the largest showrooms in the area helps us to offer the very best products at the very best price. It is my aim to make Canterbury Fireplaces the must visit showroom for years to come!
