A Taste of Modern Italy

Romano’s brings a fresh approach to Italian hospitality, writes Stephanie Sparrow

Celebrate la dolce vita with Romano’s in Longton. With an extensive menu, a diverse wine list and sophisticated interior, the restaurant offers a new way to enjoy Italian cuisine.

“I am from the south and my wife, Paola, from the north,” says owner Romano Santalucia. “Our menu combines these influences. We have dishes not always found in Italian restaurants, such as Garganelli ai Carciofi (short fresh pasta in artichoke sauce), as well as fresh fish, steaks and meat dishes. Our specials menu changes weekly to always offer something new.”

Former wine consultant Romano enjoys helping customers to pair drinks with their meals.

“I pride myself on the wine list and only buy quality wines from top producers,” he says. “We offer a range for everyone’s pockets, and not just Italian.”

His attention to detail is also seen in the homemade desserts and choice of balsamic vinegars, which can add depth to salads, grilled meats and even fresh fruit. The option of gluten-free pasta and pizza is another thoughtful touch.

Romano completely refurbished the 72-seat restaurant and open kitchen.

The new, subtle décor is complemented by comfortable leather chairs and swish cocktail bar. “Everything was made to measure for us to recreate modern, authentic Italy,” he says.

There is always something new to enjoy at Romano’s. Its festive menus (from £19.95) and Christmas Day Menu (£58.90) have just been launched, making it ideal for celebrations.
