A TREASURE TROVE

OF ANTIQUES AND MEMORABILIA

After a fantastic 2017, Silverwoods, a Clitheroe based auction house, is looking forward to another year of development and success

Providing a fast and efficient way to sell your old and unused antiques and memorabilia, Silverwoods auction house is the place to go.

Everyone who comes through the door is treated individually. Often seeing those looking to downsize, or those clearing out their house, Silverwoods auction room provides the ideal way in which to do so both quickly and effectively, with the help of the friendly and professional team.

Silverwoods opens its doors on Mondays to vendors from across the North West, when items can be brought in for an informal and free valuation by a professional team of auctioneers, or a house visit can be arranged. The lots are then catalogued on Tuesday and uploaded to the website that evening, where you can find the 500 or so lots to be sold the following day in the weekly Rediscovery Sale listed and described. Intended to take the pressure off what can often be a stressful process, Silverwoods offers one of the quickest turn-arounds in the country. Most items are sold within four days of coming into the auction, and due to a quick payment scheme, cheques are distributed the very next day.

During the valuation, the auctioneers organise everything into individual lots and, working in the best interests of the vendor, aim to ensure the items do their best in the sale. Amongst this weekly intake, hidden treasures are often unearthed by the valuers – from pieces of gold buried amongst costume jewellery to a genuine artwork by a renowned artist. Items carrying particular local significance tend to do well, and in a recent weekly sale an 1842 Preston Guild mug surprised everyone and fetched £500. More specialist items are hand-picked by the auctioneers and placed in one of the prestigious catalogue sales (as listed) which can reach a worldwide audience. For example, a vintage 1940s gold cased Oyster Perpetual Rolex that sold for £1,850 in the December Fine Arts sale.
