A UNIQUE EXPERIENCE

Multi-award winning, family-run, independent wine merchant The Whalley Wine Shop is a great reason to visit Whalley. Sarah Varley meets with owner Tom Jones to find out what makes the shop so popular with locals and visitors alike

Right in the heart of the picturesque village, The Whalley Wine Shop offers a unique wine-buying experience where you will find a keen and enthusiastic team to guide and advise you as you discover a fantastic selection of wines, gins, whiskies, craft beers and more.

Stocking one of the finest selections of fine wines, bottled ales, and premium spirits that Lancashire has to offer, all meticulously hand-selected by the knowledgeable staff, The Whalley Wine Shop is definitely worth a visit. With over 1000 wines alone in stock, there is something for every palate and every budget.

As owner Tom Jones explains: “Our mission is making the world of wine, beer and spirits accessible to anyone and everyone, so whether you’re a seasoned wine connoisseur, a gin expert, or a complete novice, we’re confident that we’re the shop for you!

“Next year, The Whalley Wine Shop will have been open 10 years,” Tom says.

“Our aim from the start has always been to find superb quality wines that really over deliver at the price and to sell these wines with genuine passion, enthusiasm and above all fantastic customer service. We strive to make sure that every single customer is looked after by polite and knowledgeable staff, and we help you choose the right wine every time.”

“In the supermarket there is little advice for customers, and when buying online you don’t get the chance to see, touch and, most importantly, taste the wines,” Tom continues, which is why The Whalley Wine Shop experience is so different.

“We love the vibrant sampling scene that has built up in the shop. This is the place to come to try different things and discover something new.”

“You can enjoy sampling a changing range of premium wines from our Enomatic ‘try before you buy’ machine, including some of the finest wines you wouldn’t get the chance to try anywhere else.”

There is also the exceptional value ‘House Pours’ menu, where you can enjoy a glass of decent wine from only £3.

Expert advice is always available. If you want to take a bottle home, the staff who all have wine industry qualifications and years of wine experience, will happily recommend the right bottle for you. You can also buy a bottle off the shelf, pay a small corkage fee, and enjoy drinking it in the shop or sitting outside watching the world go by making the most of the beautiful location.

It’s always a good time to visit, Tom tells me: “It makes no difference when you visit, as the shop is open all day until 10pm seven days a week and whatever time of day it is, the whole team are just as enthusiastic to help.”

With Father’s Day on the way, you have the perfect excuse to visit. If you’re gift hunting, this is a shop where you can enjoy buying from a great selection of whiskies and other gifts that will delight dad, with advice on hand to help you decide and gift vouchers in all denominations – and while you’re there why not sample a glass or two and discover a whole new wine experience right here in Whalley.
