A homage to the true, deep black used to render silhouetted figures and scenes on Ancient Greek ceramics, Athenian Black is the latest addition to the Chalk Paint™ palette.
Oxford-based fine artist, author and colour expert Annie Sloan took inspiration from the world-famous pottery collection in the antiquities gallery of her local museum, The Ashmolean in Oxford.
“It’s a black so authentic it suggests a complete absence of light,” explains Annie. “I’ve matched Athenian Black with earthy tones to reinforce the earthenware association, but it makes a dramatic statement when used alone, evoking mystery, decadence and sophistication,” she continues.
Joining the iconic Chalk Paint™ by Annie Sloan collection of mixable decorative paints, Athenian Black offers a velvety matt finish and can be applied to almost any surface – including furniture, walls and floors without priming or sanding.
