Birdsong, Bees And Butterflies…

At Holden Clough spring is in the air and the team of nursery and growing experts can’t wait to showcase the new developments at this magical location

Bursting into life, Holden Clough is all set for spring! The team at the nursery are all experts in their individual fields, as award-winning horticulturalist John Foley explains: “We have an amazing team here,” says John, who runs Holden Clough with his wife Kate. “They’re a great network of knowledgeable experts.

“We are an ‘old world style’ nursery but that doesn’t in any way mean we are old fashioned – it means we employ traditional growing techniques producing plants that can withstand the harsh Lancashire climate.”

Winner of an RHS Gold Medal, Holden Clough is all set for Mother’s Day – there are fresh bouquets and country-style jam jar flowers – blooms to suit all budgets in what will be the most spectacular of floral displays! There is also a stunning array of gorgeous gifts in the Glasshouse, which features vintage furniture and home accessories.

Venture into the Botanical Room and discover one of the best house plant collections in the region. This magnificent showcase is unrivalled with all bases covered when it comes to indoor plants and succulents.

When you visit Holden Clough, which is located in the tiny hamlet of Holden in the Ribble Valley, you can also enjoy delicious, traditional ‘grub’ including toasted sandwiches and stews, crispy bacon ciabatta, homemade cakes and biscuits – all served from the Shepherd’s Hut nestling in the nursery grounds.

And, new to the nursery is a heated courtyard featuring Hungarian benches and pendant chandeliers creating a magical seating area where visitors can enjoy being outdoors while under cover.

With the arrival of spring are a number of new workshops and courses all centred around the worktable in the Glasshouse and there will be artisan markets for visitors to enjoy and celebrate local makers and their products.

Whether you’re visiting Holden Clough to buy gardening gifts or check out the exclusive collection of terracotta pots by Pots and Pithoi, maybe have a bite to eat or stroll through the carefully curated plant collections, this ultimately pretty nursery with its fragrant herbs and lavenders, is an incredible place to be with birdsong, bees and butterflies as a beautiful backdrop.
