BURNING BRIGHT

Lucas Everett of Canterbury Fireplaces talks to Olivia Beaty about the hot trends and styles for this season

Having been in the fireplace industry over 15 years you will have seen numerous different fireplace trends throughout your time.

Is there a particular fashion towards any specific style of fireplace at the moment?
The trends have changed dramatically through the years! Recently wood burning stoves have been quite popular, however we have also seen a huge increase in the sales of gas fires, in particular gas stoves and more bespoke gas fires such as the ‘hole in the wall’ style and the ‘two-three sided built in fires’.

Your built in gas fires are stunning! Do these fires only suit a particularly style property?
They are! They look incredibly unique and they really make a statement in any home. We offer both traditional and modern styles in order to suit any property. We have recently installed a number of these in barn conversions and also new build homes which sometimes can lack a finishing focal point. We are proud to have something to suit every home.

What do you think this recent trend towards gas fires and stoves is due to?
Gas fires and stoves have really come on leaps and bounds, gas stoves feature all the charms and atmosphere of a log fire, with an exceptionally realistic glow and elegantly dancing flames – that is what customers fall in love with.
That, coupled with improved efficiency means lower running costs and very low maintenance. Customers like the ease of a remote control which is available with most models. More fires are now available as balanced flue meaning we can install them into a room without a chimney.

What brands of gas fires do you stock at Canterbury?
We ensure that we have something to suit everyone’s budget. One of the more popular brands is Legend Fires that are actually based here right in Blackburn. We have recently added their new gas stove to our showroom display and it is already proving a huge hit!
Gazco Fires are also incredibly popular, their newest fire the Reflex 75 is probably the most realistic on the market, I personally love this one. It comes with non-reflective glass as standard, a built in LED light system and can also be used via an app so you can control the fire from your phone/tablet! We also stock Vision Trimline, Infinity, Crystal and Nu-flame.

Can the gas fires and stoves be found on display at the showroom?
Customers always comment that they are extremely impressed with our showroom. They love being able to see and touch the products then they know exactly what they are buying. Our friendly team are always on hand to demonstrate or answer any questions. We exhibit over 100 different fires and stoves with around 40 working gas fires. We ensure that customers can see each particular fire in operation in order to decide which control option would best suit them.

What do you think is the future for gas?
The industry is forever changing so it’s important for us to keep up to date. We will continue to develop and move forward with the industry, whilst continuing to provide our first class service.
