Mellor-based Stanley House Hotel and Spa is celebrating double success after bringing home two prestigious awards. The hotel was named ‘Best Wedding Venue – Hotel and Spa’ at the Great Northern Wedding Awards, while senior receptionist Rhianna Feeney was awarded the ‘Individual Excellence’ accolade at the Ribble Valley Stars in Tourism Awards. To secure the highly-coveted ‘Best Wedding Venue – Hotel and Spa’ title, Stanley House’s 2018, 2019 and 2020 bride and grooms voted for the venue in their thousands, while the reader-nominated process also saw the Mellor venue named a finalist in the ‘Best Wedding Venue – Country House’ category. Meanwhile, Rhianna’s win at the Ribble Valley Stars in Tourism Awards comes shortly after she was promoted to senior receptionist in January.

Leading Lancashire care provider Springhill Care Group has partnered with community services to help pioneer dementia care awareness. The Accrington based group has teamed up with members of the Hyndburn Dementia Action Alliance (HDAA), a local association of the national Dementia Action Alliance (DAA). This is a collaborative scheme helping to change the way that people feel about dementia and improve the lives of people living with dementia. Victoria Huntriss, Health and Wellbeing Lead at Springhill Care Home, said: “This partnership means we can get up-to-date information about what is available in the community so that we can take residents along to events or make links with people who can bring events to us.” Lyndsay Wheatcroft, of the Hyndburn Dementia Action Alliance, said: “We are working together to radically improve the lives of people living with dementia and their carers and this is a pioneering community initiative.”

Committed to giving something back to the communities in which it builds, Anwyl Homes has sponsored the Under 10s Whites team at Longridge Town Juniors, providing the players with new branded red and black training tops and jackets ahead of the new season. Having acquired land in Longridge with a new development coming soon, the award-winning housebuilder was keen to support Longridge Town Juniors. Johnathan Kenyon, coach of Longridge Town Juniors Under 10s Whites, says: “The generosity of local businesses really does benefit the junior teams at the club and we are extremely grateful to Anwyl Homes for its support.”

Passengers flying in and out of Manchester Airport can now refill their water bottles free of charge at any of its bars, cafes and restaurants. The UK’s third largest airport has signed up to a scheme called Refill, a national initiative backed by local water company, United Utilities. It means passengers can refill their water bottles at any of the 33 outlets across the airport’s three terminals. This is in addition to water fountains that are already located in both arrivals and the departure lounges. With 7.7 billion plastic water bottles bought across the UK each year, the scheme aims to reduce the amount of single use plastic waste.

One of the country’s leading organisations for the promotion of women in business is seeking nominations for its annual prestigious FL National Awards & Summit, which recognises outstanding female business leaders across the UK. Forward Ladies has run its respected awards programme for 10 years, and last year attracted an astonishing 1,800 nominations. The deadline for this year’s nominations is 11th June. Women can either self-nominate or be nominated by a colleague or business associate on the Forward Ladies website, within a broad range of categories. The North West Regional Final will be held on Friday 13th September at the Lowry Hotel, Manchester.

Tyler and Donna Stevenson have acquired the West Lancashire Greenthumb branch which they will run alongside the Blackburn branch they have had since they launched it in 2002. The West Lancashire branch services over 4000 customers and employs 10 staff, taking the overall business up to over 7000 customers and 16 local employees. The merger will strengthen the infrastructure of the overall business through economies of scale. Tyler and Donna have an excellent reputation with a high standard of customer service and with an ethos of giving back to the local community. They look forward to further enhancing the Greenthumb brand across the two branch territories.

The Gainsborough Flooring team were thrilled to be part of the Red Carpet Zone at the recent Lancashire Business Expo hosted at the Guild Hall in Preston. Gainsborough Flooring teamed up with a number of leading businesses from Lancashire to create a stunning red carpeted area where visitors were welcomed and provided with free coffee and cake.
