Solicitors team up with Age UK Lancashire
Vincents Solicitors has joined the campaign to end loneliness by teaming up with Age UK in Chorley to organise a chippy tea and a quiz. Older members of the community were invited to get out and meet new people. Loneliness is a huge problem and often older clients of Vincents go days without seeing anyone. The event was aimed to engage with as many people in the local area as possible.

Airport signs up to tap water refill scheme
Passengers flying in and out of Manchester Airport can now refill their water bottles free of charge at any of its bars, cafes and restaurants. The UK’s third largest airport has signed up to a scheme called Refill, a national City to Sea initiative backed by local water company, United Utilities. It means passengers can refill their water bottles at any of the 33 outlets across the airport’s three terminals. This is in addition to water fountains that are already located in both arrivals and the departure lounges.

Leisure company celebrates 25 years
In 1994, the Harrison family purchased a partly developed and derelict ‘caravan site’ in Wrea Green in Lancashire. With just a handful of neglected caravans and a couple of sorry-looking cowsheds, the 100-acre site had nothing to offer but potential. Twenty-five years later and that site has reached its potential. Still owned by the Harrison family, Ribby Hall Village has become one of the country’s most successful holiday villages, attracting over a million visitors a year.

Small Business Sunday winner
Alison Critchley from Heights Farm Premium Pet Foods has received a massive business boost from Retail Entrepreneur Theo Paphitis of BBC’s Dragon’s Den. Last week Alison, who owns the Preston and Fylde franchise of the company, tweeted Theo about her business during ‘Small Business Sunday’ and was one of only six weekly winners to gain a retweet from Theo to his 500,000 twitter followers. The initiative was set up by Theo in 2010.

New streamlined ticketing service
A new, streamlined ticketing service is being introduced for Blackpool’s biggest night of the year – the Blackpool Illuminations Switch-On concert. VisitBlackpool has announced that the traditional free wristbands will be replaced with a secure e-ticketing system and that there will once again be a limited number of guaranteed Golden Circle tickets for the star-studded event on the Tower Festival Headland on 30th August.

Prestigious Queen’s Award winner
