The entrepreneurial spirit is alive and well in the thriving Ribble Valley, where business always matters
SHOPPING VILLAGE EXPANSION PLAN
Award-winning shopping village Oswaldtwistle Mills is looking to create an exciting new home and lifestyle store located in the Ribble Valley, selling furniture and contemporary homeware at Barrow Brook Business Park. An application for the £1.5 million development of a 1,380 sq m unit has been submitted to Ribble Valley Borough Council. The purpose-built glass fronted store will be occupied by Oswaldtwistle Mills under the new trading name Love Furniture Stores and will include a coffee shop and tearoom along with 45 car parking spaces. The new development will sit alongside the existing commercial units at Barrow Brook, which includes a Starbucks, Subway, McDonald’s, KFC, Co-Operative food store and Texaco petrol station. Similar to its existing operations, in Oswaldtwistle and Batley, the new retail unit at Barrow Brook will accommodate a diverse range of furniture and homewares.
One of the Forest of Bowland’s largest employers is doing its bit for the environment by investing in a fleet of clean, green electric delivery vehicles. James’ Places Group has taken delivery of two Renault Kangoo electric vans, which employ state-of-the-art battery technology to deliver comparable performance to petrol or diesel, but zero emissions. With an effective range of more than 100 miles, the 100 per cent electric vans are ideal for making local deliveries. They will shuttle between James’ Places eight hotels and inns in the Ribble Valley, Forest of Bowland, Yorkshire Dales and South Cumbria transporting beer from Bowland Brewery and other stock between venues. To support the new sustainable delivery network, the group has also installed computer-controlled Podpoint smart charging stations at all its venues.
Ribble Valley based Community Radio Station, Ribble FM AND Executive Director and Station Manager Kath Lord-Green have both been shortlisted as finalists for the 2018 E3 Business Awards, which will be held at the Macron Stadium in Bolton in July 2018. Ribble FM CIC was selected from amongst hundreds of nominees to become one of the finalists for the prestigious Social Enterprise category and Kath has been selected as a finalist for Outstanding Women in Business.
TEAM OF THE YEAR
Mellor-based Stanley House Hotel and Spa is celebrating success after bringing home an accolade at this year’s Ribble Valley Stars in Tourism Awards. The award for Team of the Year went to the hotel’s reservations team, with the special honour being handed over at the glittering awards ceremony, held at Mytton Fold Hotel. The seven-strong team has vastly improved guest experience by enhancing the complete customer journey, with its impact reflected in expansion across all areas of activity, including a 17 per cent year-on-year revenue increase at Stanley House’s world-class spa, which scooped the Best Spa in the North West accolade at the Good Spa Guide Awards 2017.
SILVER HAT TRICK
Marketing Lancashire is proud to announce three of its partners have received prestigious honours at the Visit England Awards for Excellence 2018, the tourism industry’s most celebrated annual awards. It was a silver hat-trick for the county with The Cartford Inn at Little Eccleston in the Tourism Pub of the Year category, Browsholme Hall, Clitheroe, in the Sustainable Tourism category and Ascent Trampoline Park, Blackpool, in the New Tourism Business section. Winners received their awards at a prestigious ceremony at Bath Assembly Rooms last month. The national Visit England Awards for Excellence, now in their 29th year, celebrate businesses and individuals who excel in the delivery of tourism excellence across England. The three businesses got the opportunity to compete for a Visit England award after winning in their respective categories at the county’s Lancashire Tourism Awards in November 2017.
