Visit to EKM
Lord-Lieutenant of Lancashire Lord Shuttleworth has officially opened ecommerce website provider EKM’s Preston offices. Lord Shuttleworth was appointed Lord-Lieutenant of Lancashire in 1997 and has served as chairman of the Association of Lord-Lieutenants since 2008. He visited EKM’s award-nominated, custom-built, self-financed £3.5 million Fulwood offices, which took four years to design, plan and build. Established in 2002, EKM was the first cloud-based ecommerce platform in the UK. Today it employs over 80 at a single site in Preston.

£100m regeneration
£100m regeneration of Blackpool town centre has been confirmed. Blackpool Council is committed to focusing large-scale investment in a series of major schemes that will breathe new life into the town centre over the next three years. Projects include: a £26m investment in a new, state-of-the-art conference centre, support for the extension of the Houndshill Shopping Centre and a new 144-bedroom, four-star Holiday Inn and restaurant that will be sited at the North Station transport interchange.

Preston photos
An amateur photographer who has had her photos of Preston used all over regional media has produced a calendar of some of her best images of the city. It is available from the Harris Museum shop, Margaret Mason Florist and the Beach Hut Café at Preston Docks, price £9.99 with 20 per cent of the profits going to The Foxton Centre in Preston.

Work starts on Market Walk extension
Work to extend Chorley shopping centre is underway with a high street name and cinema operator already signed up to the £12 million development. The eight-unit development will see an M&S Food hall, six-screen Reel Cinema, restaurants and other new businesses come to the growing market town. The council has worked closely with local construction firm Eric Wright group on preparing the town centre for the changes with a new decked car park, the demolition of buildings to create a new single level car park and major public realm improvements to match the new developments with the rest of the town centre.

Charity cycle
Sharoe Green Dental Practice was visited by the ‘Five go Forth’ team of Chris Barrow, Les Jones, Sheila Scott, Simon Tucker and Ashley Latter. The five dental business consultants stopped off at the practice as part of their challenge to cycle 1000 miles in 15 days to raise funds for three wonderful charities, Cancer Research, Bridge2Aid and BrushUpUK. Sharoe Green Dental Practice was delighted to host the team and be a well needed rest stop, with its dentist Dr Dan Walmsley joining them for part of the journey.

Awards finalists
Marketing Lancashire has revealed the 103 finalists competing in 22 categories for this year’s Lancashire Tourism Awards, which are Lancashire’s only county-wide tourism and hospitality awards. Categories include everything from new business and small business award through to visitor attraction and cultural venue award. The winners in each of the 22 categories will be announced at the Lancashire Tourism Awards 2018 black-tie dinner and awards ceremony in November.
