The entrepreneurial spirit is alive and well in the thriving Ribble Valley, where business always matters

This month, brother and sister team Daniel and Deborah Burke will have successfully navigated 20 years in business together. The pair own and operate Lightworks Stained Glass from their studio in Clitheroe along with their small dedicated team. The firm specialises in the design and production of high-end bespoke new commissions and the restoration, conservation and protection of existing stained, leaded and historic glazing. Daniel says: “It’s quite something to think we’ve been working away in our little studio together for 20 years but those years have literally flown by.”

A new member of the senior team has been appointed at a leading Accrington care home and is driving the future of care forward by encouraging people to take up nursing. Bernadette Bennett is now the deputy manager of Springhill Care Home after 38 years of working in the care sector for the NHS and private sector. Bernadette, who has been promoted after being at Springhill as Service Manager for three years, said: “Springhill is a great place to work even though it is quite large. It actually feels like a family here and that is something that I value. This enables us to make it a home from home for our residents as well.”

Mellor-based Stanley House Hotel and Spa is celebrating success after securing double recognition for its wedding offering. The multi-award-winning hotel has scooped a finalist place in the Wedding Venue category of the Lancashire Tourism Awards, while it has also been named a nominee in this year’s Great Northern Wedding Awards.

Two years ago Marco Vaghetti had no idea how to make a shoe. Fast forward to today and he has been listed as one of the North West’s brightest business talents. Marco was been listed in the Insider Media North West 42 Under 42 Awards. Marco launched Whalley-based gentleman’s footwear brand LANX in May following a six month trip around Asia, visiting 10 countries from Sri Lanka to Cambodia, to learn the art of shoemaking from the experts. Previous 42 Under 42 inclusions have been Steven Bartlett of Social Chain, Johnny Shanahan of BarberBarber, Solly Solomou & Arian Kalantari from the LADbible Group and Peter Kenyon, ex Manchester United Chief Executive.

Whittles Jewellers has completed its showroom extension in Preston. The newly expanded premises on Fishergate, now features an exclusive Rolex room coupled with a luxury diamond suite. The new Rolex room’s bespoke furniture and fittings were designed in Switzerland and were manufactured by UK-based shopfitters Benbow Group. The new room will showcase an enhanced Rolex range allowing greater depth of choice and variety for clients to enjoy. To complement the new Rolex Room, a newly appointed diamond suite will offer a more intimate environment, where clients can select the perfect gift from Whittles’ world class, hand sourced diamonds and gemstones.
