Investment in nightclub
Preston has welcomed back the nation’s favourite party as Popworld reopened its glittery doors in December after a £200,000 investment. Since its beginnings in Southampton, the chain of pop-themed nightclubs has seen four years of growth and has forged a legendary status throughout the UK by providing unforgettable nights out. The reopening of Popworld Preston on Church Street, makes it 33 sites nationwide. The opening weekend was a fun packed retro bonanza with street entertainers and a guest appearance from McFly’s Dougie Poynter.
Win for small agency
Lancashire-based marketing agency, ICG is celebrating after being crowned ‘Best Small Agency’ (up to 30 employees) at Prolific North’s Northern Marketing Awards 2018. Now in its sixth year, the awards celebrate the excellence and achievements of the crème de la crème of the northern marketing industry. ICG has recently turned 25 years old and the award is the latest accolade after being named Active Workplace of the Year 2018 at the Fylde Council’s Sports Awards.
Engineer scoops industry accolade
BAE Systems engineer Sophie Harker is recognised as a world-leading engineer by the Institution of Engineering and Technology Achievement Awards. Sophie, from Lytham St Annes, has been awarded the Sir Henry Royce Medal, one of the IET Achievement Awards. The medal is awarded to an outstanding young professional who has excelled in the workplace and recognises the work Sophie has contributed to in researching and developing future technologies for the Air sector business.
Create Homes is to start on a third residential development in Lancashire in the new year. Situated in the semi-rural village of Pilling on the Wyre, the new development will contain 37 units in a mix of detached and semi-detached, two, three and four bedroom properties.

Play area opens
The transformation of a town centre recreation ground is well underway with the new toddler play area now open. Chorley Council is investing £400,000 into Coronation Recreation Ground, which will see two brand new play areas, a multi-use games area, fitness zone, kiosk and toilets. The authority was awarded £30,000 from the Lancashire Environment Fund, which has contributed to creating the first fully inclusive toddler play area in the borough, at the Devonshire Road site.
