Fresh start for visitor attraction
It’s been all-systems-go at the RSPB’s Ribble Discovery Centre at Fairhaven Lake, Lytham as the long-established attraction gets ready for a major makeover thanks to funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund. The visitor centre is being completely refurbished along with other facilities and activities at Fairhaven Lake, as part of a Fylde Council project which has already seen the development of the new sea wall and promenade at Granny’s Bay.
New GP surgery for Whittle-le-Woods
The plans for the site include a modern GP surgery with nine consulting rooms, three treatment rooms and an onsite car park. The new development will replace the current Whittle GP surgery and provide services for existing and new patients. The build is due for completion in early 2022. The construction is planned to be carbon-neutral with solar power, and the use of energy efficient materials. The scheme will also benefit from electric car charging points.
New service launched

Top restaurant unveils electric charging point
Porsche Centre Preston has officially unveiled Lancashire’s first Porsche Destination electric charging point in West Lancashire. The new installation, at Moor Hall Restaurant with Rooms in Aughton, is part of the recently-announced commercial partnership between the two-star Michelin Restaurant and Porsche Centre Preston. It will see Porsche roll out charger installations at selected hotels, airports, museums, shopping centres, sports clubs and marinas.
Blackpool connects to the north Atlantic loop
Business and civic leaders met in Blackpool to witness a pioneering new initiative that will give the resort a huge competitive advantage. The much-anticipated connection to a subsea, fibre optic, Irish Sea cable network will have the capability to deliver some of the world’s fastest, most resilient internet speeds, securing Blackpool’s status as a key international route linking the UK to the rest of the world.
Deal sees multiple operator make its mark
North of England operator The Inn Collection Group has added The Lindum Hotel in the vibrant seaside town of Lytham St Annes to its pubs-with-rooms estate. The acquisition of the 88-bedroom site, located on the promenade of the popular Fylde coast resort, takes the group’s site tally to 16. The Lindum Hotel is the group’s first Lancashire site, joining its Lake District, Yorkshire, County Durham and Northumberland award-winning collection.
