Celebrate Chinese New Year!
Sarah Varley speaks to Yu General Manager Craig Jackson about upcoming events across the award-winning Yu group, which includes Yu Copster Green, Yu Alderley Edge and Yu Express
Yu’s passion for taking Chinese cuisine to the next level has seen huge success for both their Copster Green and Alderley Edge restaurants. Using the best ingredients to blend fine dining with both traditional and modern methods of Chinese cooking has been a winning formula time and again, not least when Yu Copster Green was declared Best Chinese Restaurant in the UK by Gordon Ramsay.
Chef Victor Yu divides his time between the restaurants and prides himself on putting a thoroughly modern twist on Chinese cuisine. The emphasis on fresh ingredients and taking traditional dishes to a new level, along with some new innovative dishes, make the food offering at Yu second to none.
Chinese New Year is the perfect time to visit Yu as both restaurants will be celebrating the Year of the Rat in style, as General Manager Craig Jackson explains: “We are hosting a Chinese New Year Dinner at Yu Alderley Edge with celebrity chef Ching He Huang on Thursday 30th January. Ching is a TV chef, author and Chinese cuisine expert – you may have seen her on cooking shows such as Saturday Kitchen – and guests will enjoy a five-course meal. Ching will be cooking both a traditional New Year menu and also vegan options for which she is famous.
“Victor is well known for collaborating with other top chefs and we have lots of guest chef events planned for 2020,” says Craig. “Victor will be cooking at the White Swan at Fence, while chef Adam Reid will be coming to us from The French at The Midland. Hrishikesh Desai, from Michelin-starred restaurant Hrishi at The Gilpin, will be cooking with us and Victor will also be cooking there.”
Themed nights are also planned for 2020 including an ABBA night on Thursday 6th February at Yu Copster Green in aid of local charity, Nightsafe.
“Guests will experience a fabulous three-course banquet at this themed event along with an ABBA tribute,” Craig says. “Tickets are £45pp which includes a donation to Nightsafe and there will also be a raffle and silent auction for Nightsafe on the night.”
The renowned Yu cuisine can also be enjoyed at home thanks to Yu Express – a fabulous take-out service offering some of Yu’s most popular dishes, including vegan and vegetarian dishes, all produced to the same exacting standards as the restaurants.
