Changing The Landscape

Of Education In Lancashire

Westholme is leading the way to deliver excellence in education across Lancashire to create confident, enthusiastic and leading individuals throughout the region, writes Meena McDonald

Led by inspiring and innovative Principal Dr Richard Robson, Westholme is determined to provide the highest level of education, focusing on delivering the essential skills required for the 21st century.

From September 2022 the school will achieve its vision of One Family, One Site, One Westholme with the creation of a new state-of-the-art Prep School on the same site as the Senior School and the INSPIRED Sixth Form.

New junior school provision
One key element of the Westholme evolution is the doubling of the Prep School Junior provision from one form to a two-form entry for Years 3 to 6 with the development of the new site at Wilmar House.

The perfect dynamics will be created by keeping the class sizes small, allowing for excellent pupil interaction combined with personal support by specialist subject teachers.

The relocation to Wilmar Lodge will also increase curriculum diversity and opportunities so pupils will be able to tap into an extensive range of facilities. There will be something to fulfil everyone’s passion, including a professional theatre, a brand new state-of-the-art music department and the amazing sporting facilities.

Fulfilling the Westholme vision
As the school approaches its centenary year Dr Robson will be delivering the vision of Westholme’s second Principal, Mr Arthur Rouse, who first opened the Senior School at Wilmar Lodge in 1968.

Dr Robson commented: “Mr Rouse’s vision was to bring the whole school together on one site and we’re delighted to be able to fulfil that dream for him in 2022. Over the past 100 years there have been only five Principals before me, and that is testament to the culture, ethos and values of the school. These have remained distinctive for nearly a century.”

Dr Robson continued: “One Westholme will have the academic rigour that we’ve always had, but more importantly, it will develop and nurture the essential skills employers are seeking in our young people, such as leadership, independence, teamwork, problem solving, communication and confidence.”

Enhanced learning
One key aspect of the school’s educational advancement is the development of its new Forest School on the new site, bringing science and nature together and delivering outside the classroom, experiences which provide immeasurable mental and physical health benefits.

Parents at the school have already witnessed the fruits of Dr Robson’s vision, passion and energy with the INSPIRED Sixth Form where the external intake has more than doubled for September 2021. Parents are extremely impressed that he has applied his experience as a UK Schools’ Inspector to enhance the school’s offering.

Come and see the educational innovations for yourself by popping into the school. Dr Robson will be delighted to share his holistic vision to deliver a first-class unrivalled education to children aged four to 18 across Lancashire.
