Live Ribble Valley takes a look at the many and varied charity projects that are taking place in towns and villages across the region

ULLSWATER SUCCESS
Open water swimmer David Holden of Whalley, successfully completed a 7.5-mile end-to-end swim of Ullswater, raising more than £1,250 for East Lancashire Hospice. The swim was in memory of good friend Ian Ward, 57, who died of cancer last year. The Ullswater Chill Swim event, saw almost 700 swimmers from all over the UK take to the water. David’s previous open water endeavours have included swimming Windermere a total of 10.5 miles and Coniston.

For his latest Ullswater challenge, David trained at Stonyhurst College pool and at Salford Quays. justgiving.com/fundraising/david-holden12

TEEN’S ACTIVE FUNDRAISER
A local teenager has been fundraising for charity despite having recent surgery to correct scoliosis, a curvature of the spine. Teegan Chilton, 15, from Barley, is fundraising for Accrington-based DanceSyndrome’s ‘We like to Move It Move It’ campaign, which encourages people to stay active and turn their movement and exercise into a fundraising activity. Speaking about her fundraising, Teegan said: “I am doing a one-mile walk, two-mile bike ride and a swim. This is a big achievement for me because I am doing all this less than three months after my operation.”
