Live Ribble Valley takes a look at a charity football match to be played at Clitheroe FC’s ground

A charity football match has been organised in memory of Michelle Kiss from Whalley, who tragically lost her life in the Manchester Arena attack. The match, which is to be held on August Bank Holiday weekend, has been organised by friends Sam Geddes and Dylan Kiss, Michelle’s son.

It is the fourth event that the duo have organised under the One Love banner.

Following their One Love Charity Golf Days the One Love Charity Football Match will raise funds in memory of those who died in the Manchester Arena attack in May 2017. The money raised will go to the Intensive Care Units (ICUs) at Wythenshawe, Salford and Manchester Royal Hospitals, which were all involved on the night of the tragedy.

Sam and Dylan hosted charity golf days in 2018, 2019 and 2021, which were hugely successful raising over £30,000 for the ICUs helping purchase new equipment and improve conditions for both patients and their families.

Hundreds of people played a part in the golf days, which featured on many local and national news platforms including ITV News, numerous radio channels and newspaper articles, and most recently, to publicise the charity football match, the forthcoming event featured on BBC Breakfast, BBC News and BBC North West Tonight.

Sam and Dylan are also hoping to receive coverage on the day of the match. The main event will be the match featuring Team Geddes v Team Kiss.

Sam and Dylan are organising their own separate teams with a manager, to compete against each other on the day. The teams will be made up of high level football players including semi-professionals and professionals.

The match will take place on August Bank Holiday, Sunday 28th August 2022 with kick off at 2pm, with the board of Clitheroe FC offering their facilities at Shawbridge in Clitheroe for the entire day.

There will be an evening function at 6pm, which will be in Clitheroe FC’s clubhouse, that will include speeches, an auction and raffle to top off a great day and raise as much money as possible for a cause very close to everyone’s hearts.

If you are interested in sponsoring the event, a number of sponsorship packages are available.
