Live Ribble Valley takes a look at ongoing fundraising projects that see thousands of pounds donated to good causes across the region
APPEAL FOR NEW MEMBERS
Goosnargh Flower Club is on the lookout for new members to share their love of flowers. The club meets every third Thursday of the month (apart from December) with meetings held in Goosnargh St Mary’s Village Hall, starting at 7.30pm.
During the year individual club members raise funds for various causes – one member, who makes cards, recently raised £205 for Derian House while another organised a lunch for Save the Children at Ferrari’s restaurant earlier this year – there is also an annual quiz in aid of Marie Curie.
Each month there is a floral demonstration by a qualified demonstrator, who usually does around six or eight arrangements, which are raffled.
Over the next three months the schedule is:
25th July Karen Schofield ‘Season to Inspire’
22nd August Patti Dawson ‘Everything in the Garden’
26th September AGM and Caroline Luke ‘Talk with Plants’
New members can just turn up at the door, but if you would prefer to speak beforehand, call Christine on 01772 718433.
MILESTONE EVENT
The former Lane Ends School House in Bolton-by-Bowland is to open its doors to the public in August, marking the 150th anniversary since the school first opened. Owner John Fielding, who has been renovating the property for 10 years, is hoping the event, which is in aid of North West Air Ambulance, will attract former pupils and local villagers. As a previous school, community centre and polling station, the property is a landmark well known to many.
The ‘Open Door’ event at the school house, which closed in 1975, will be held on 24th August from 1pm to 4pm. Entertainment will feature Perfect Fourth, a saxophone quartet and refreshments will be provided.
SAVER ACCOUNTS RAISE FUNDS
Lancashire savers can help raise funds for local charities without spending a penny, thanks to Marsden Building Society’s relaunched Affinity Saver accounts.
With a variable interest rate, the Society’s new online Affinity Saver and branch Affinity Saver enable account holders to choose one of four charities to support: the Marsden Building Society Charitable Foundation, Pendleside Hospice, Trinity Hospice or the North West Air Ambulance.
Each year, the Society will donate a percentage of the total average balance of all Affinity Saver accounts to the chosen charity. This means that the more money saved in those accounts, the more money the society will donate.
The Marsden Building Society Charitable Foundation launched in 2023 and has already awarded £30,000 in grants to non-profit organisations across Lancashire. The Foundation aims to support projects in the county focusing on three key themes – financial well-being, societal inclusion and the environment.
