CHARITY FOCUS

Live Ribble Valley takes a look at the many and varied charity projects that are taking place in towns and villages across the region

MUSIC FESTIVAL
The acclaimed Ribble Valley Music Festival continues this year with its charitable objectives of producing concerts to raise funds for the churches where the concerts are held. The opening event at Chatburn Methodist Church on Saturday afternoon 14th April is another first in the area when an Americana Music Bonanza will celebrate the influences of Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, Simon and Garfunkel and James Taylor performed in a double bill by Helsby Mountain String Band and the Jester B duo, followed by a barbeque.
Concert tickets are £10 from Roy Porter Butcher in Chatburn. For information email: info@ribblevalleymusic.co.uk

FOOD BANK STATION
The Ribble Valley Food Bank is struggling to meet demand from the local community in need. A donation station will be at the next Whalley and District Lions’ monthly coffee morning on Saturday 17th March at Whalley Methodist Hall from 10am to 12pm. The donation station will allow local food donations to be left and collected by the food bank. Anyone wanting to attend the coffee morning but needs assistance to get to the hall, please contact the Lions and one of their volunteers will be happy to collect.

CHARITY RIDE
A charity pony ride is set to be held to raise funds for Blackburn based Nightsafe. The ride which will be held at Home Farm in Lytham on 27th May, has been organised by the Iley Foals organisation that brings young riders together, promoting safe learning, competition and friendship. The charity ride, over 390 acres of land, will cover farm fields and forestry land with easy access to Marton Moss. There will be optional jumps, a non-jumping track, on-site lorry parking and there will be the opportunity for some riders to hack to the farm for the event. The event for the younger Iley Foals up to aged 10, has also been opened up to older groups of riders – the Iley Academy for teenagers and the Iley Equines for adults, who can take part later in the day.

BUY A BRICK
Waddington and West Bradford Primary School have pledged to raise £22,000 to finance a 10 per cent contribution towards the building of a new classroom. The Friends of WWB are stepping up to the challenge to raise the money before April so that building work can start in time to accommodate the growing numbers of children. The school recently expanded to include a pre-school facility and this, coupled with the school’s ever increasing popularity, has led to the need for a new classroom. In addition to the £22,000 building contribution, the school also needs to find the money to furnish and resource the new classroom. So, in addition to their regular fundraisers, this year they are launching a ‘Buy a Brick’ campaign to encourage sponsorship. An auction and ball will also be held at Eaves Hall this month. Anyone wanting to offer sponsorship or ‘Buy a Brick’ go to www.wwb.lancs.sch.uk or contact the school office on 01200 422915 leaving details. The Friends of WWB are hoping to have a dedicated wall of names of sponsors on brick wallpaper in the new classroom.
