CHOOSING YOUR FESTIVE DRINKS

SHOULD BE FUN!

The team at The Whalley Wine Shop makes choosing your Christmas drinks and gifts a pleasure. Sarah Varley meets owner Tom Jones to find out what treats lie in store, including an exclusive King Street Gin

“Choosing wine is a fun shopping experience, it’s something that’s inherently enjoyable, and The Whalley Wine Shop fulfils that aim,” explains owner Tom Jones. “We bring together the most incredible wines in a really nice environment, with a great team of really knowledgeable staff here to help you select the right wine every time.

“One of our biggest advantages is that you can try before you buy. Wine is so subjective, we all like different things so we’re very focused on the importance of customers trying wines and making sure it’s exactly what they want,” Tom says.

“In the supermarket there is little advice for customers, and when buying online you don’t get the chance to see, touch and, most importantly, taste the wines.”

With a new Enomatic wine tasting machine, the shop offers a whole ‘try before you buy’ system. “All the wines we’re recommending for Christmas will be available to try, and it gives you the opportunity to try something different. If you want to know what a £50 Amarone tastes like, try a glass,” Tom states. “Nowhere else in the area offers this so it makes shopping here a really unique experience.”

“One of the most important and enjoyable things we do is being able to offer accurate and exciting food matches” enthuses Tom. “We have 1000+ wines in stock, so we can find a wine for every palate and every budget. Come in, tell us what dishes you’re planning to make and we will help you find a delicious wine to match them.”

It’s been a long held ambition of The Whalley Wine Shop to make a unique gin crafted especially for the people of Whalley with a genuine link to Whalley, and made with local ingredients. “The volunteers at Whalley in Bloom had the idea to blend herbs grown for centuries at Whalley Abbey with herbs grown today in the gardens of local villagers. Thus our sage, rosemary and chamomile ‘King Street Gin’ was born,” Tom explains.

King Street Gin is a limited edition Gin created by Brindle Distillery specially for The Whalley Wine Shop and £3 from each bottle sold goes to the Whalley in Bloom fund.

Call in to The Whalley Wine Shop for more information and look out for their eagerly anticipated Christmas brochure and special value Christmas Cases starting with the ‘Quaffable Case’ at just £74.99 for 12 bottles.
