If you’re looking for somewhere different to catch-up with friends, family or colleagues of all ages, then look no further than BonBons Coffee Bar.

Set in a characterful building built in 1913 and overlooking a beautifully established garden on Penwortham high street, as soon as you step through the door you enter a different coffee bar experience.

The smartly dressed staff wearing traditional tweed waistcoats set the tone with their warm and friendly welcome. Adding to BonBons’ warmth and relaxed high-end coffee bar experience is the unique interior décor of philosophical quotes and the gentle 1950s jazz and swing music playing in the background.

BonBons offers a range of quality coffees and teas (around 30 choices to be precise) amazing cakes, daily homemade scones and a menu of generously proportioned meals and snacks including homemade soups and paninis, all made fresh to order. They also sell premium tea from Chorley based Lottie’s and delicious homemade jams and chutneys from Winnie’s Delights of Leyland.

BonBons is also licensed for alcohol so why not enjoy a tipple with your meal? Afternoon Teas with Prosecco is a particular favourite. Functions such as baby showers or small birthday parties can also be catered for by prior arrangement.

Opened in November 2017, BonBon’s lives by the ethos of ‘where friends meet and hearts warm’ and with five-star reviews on Trip Advisor and Facebook, its owners Sylvia and Paul are definitely delivering on what they set out to achieve.

“We want people to feel welcome and to create a home from home environment,” explains owner and proprietor Sylvia.

“As soon as people walk in the door, we want our customers to feel relaxed. The layout and ambiance are key for us, so we haven’t crammed too many tables in and always strive to make sure our customers truly enjoy the atmosphere. Thanks to our lovely customers’ feedback and return visits, we’re so happy to know that we are achieving this,” says Sylvia.

With 30 indoor seats, BonBons offers a lounge area and garden room which is a slightly more formal space with lace table cloths and views of the established garden. Young families will enjoy space for pushchairs and excellent baby changing facilities.

There’s also outdoor seating for sunnier days overlooking the garden and small pond with goldfish, newts and toads.

BonBons is set in an old residential property and Sylvia and Paul were keen to ensure the garden area, and the property itself, retained as much of its original character as possible.

“As soon as we saw the property, it just felt right and I knew that the coffee bar would work really well here,” said Sylvia. After a career in dentistry spanning 28 years, it was Sylvia’s dream to set up her own coffee bar.

“Once we’d secured the property, we undertook a large renovation project to open it up internally and make it fully accessible to all. Many locals have memories of the building as an old shoe shop so as a nod to its history we have tried to keep the original feel of the property and have newspaper cuttings of its past use as well as photos of its previous owners. Something a lot of our older customers like to share their memories about.”

“We haven’t looked back since BonBons opened, thank you to all our wonderful customers.”
