Blackburn College is celebrating the best results it has seen in more than five years – true testament to the hard-working students and tutors

Blackburn College’s A-Level learners achieved a 100 per cent pass rate in 21 subjects and a 99.7 per cent pass rate overall, plus an increase in students scooping top A* and A grades. Vocational students have been superb, achieving a 100 per cent pass rate in over 100 courses! Plus, the apprenticeships have been confirmed as the best in Pennine Lancashire for all age apprentice success and named in the Top 10 Colleges in England for 16 to 18-year-old Advanced Apprenticeships.

These impressive achievements have been made possible by Blackburn College’s strong emphasis on equipping students to be independent, resilient learners ready to take their place at university or get started in their career.

Studied: Computing with Programming, Games Development and Cyber Security, Level 3 Extended Diploma
Achieved: Triple Distinction Star
Progressing to: BSc (Hons) Computer Forensic and Security at Manchester Metropolitan University.
“My time at Blackburn College has helped me manage my workload, time and develop my research skills, which are obviously important for the future. I’m able to do my own thinking and the College has given me a sense of individualism and the confidence to take more responsibility.”

Maisie Holme
School: Oakhill School
Studied: Travel and Tourism, Level 3 Extended Diploma
Achieved: Distinction Star, Distinction Star, Distinction
Progressing to: University to study travel and tourism related subjects with a view to a career within the industry.
“The College has prepared me for the future by helping to organise my work experience opportunities. I did two lots of work placements which helped me understand more about the travel and tourism industry and guided me towards what type of job I would like in the future.”

Studied: Music Technology Level 3 Extended Diploma

Progressing to: BA (Hons) Management of Music, Entertainment, Theatre and Events at the Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts (LIPA).
“I really enjoyed the practical elements of the course, it’s very hands on and you learn as you go along which is exciting. You get to use a lot of modern equipment which is used within the music industry.”

Studied: Public Services (Uniformed and Non-Uniformed) Level 3 Extended Diploma
Achieved: Triple Distinction Star
Progressing to: BSc (Hons) Professional Policing at Edge Hill University.
