CONTEMPORARY KITCHEN

Katie Green’s client, who has recently retired from teaching after 40 years, has exciting plans for the future – including a new home and a totally refurbished kitchen.

Julie’s new ground floor apartment is a beautiful, contemporary open plan living area that flows from one space to the next. Before she moved in however, a new kitchen was required as the original one was out of date and didn’t meet her requirements in terms of blending in with the open plan dining area and lounge.

Julie turned to Katie at Heart of your Home Kitchens in Waddington, where she visited the showroom and discussed her requirements with Katie who was delighted to be asked to create a contemporary kitchen: “This was a very different project from the Shaker style kitchens, which to date, have been our most popular style,” explains Katie. “It was lovely to be asked to create a kitchen in an apartment with a real contemporary feel.”Julie asked Katie to create a design that would make the kitchen area look more spacious and she particularly wanted a modern, minimalist look that would fit in with the rest of the apartment.

After lengthy discussions Katie came up with a stunning design and Julie opted for handleless Porter Matt Silver Grey cabinets from the Second Nature collection with quartz worktops in Carrera White Marble.

“I found it quite difficult choosing the colours,” says Julie. “There are so many shades of grey, you wouldn’t believe it! I went for silver grey with marble worktops which tie in with my marble topped table in the dining area and the grey furniture in my lounge.”

To add a pop of colour Julie chose lovely sunshine yellow accessories to enhance the scheme.

“I don’t do a lot of entertaining in terms of dinner parties but I do have friends around for supper so the layout works really well as I can be in the kitchen and still chat to people in the open plan dining area or lounge. The layout flows really well which is exactly what I wanted.”

For the flooring, Katie and Julie turned to Belinda Tolenaar at Touchwood Flooring in Longridge, choosing Opus in Argento from the Karndean collection.

“We brick-laid the flooring which is pale grey with a marble effect. It was very simple but the effect was stunning,” adds Belinda. “The kitchen looks beautiful and the flooring really pulls it all together as it blended really well with the grey of the cabinets.”

Heart of your Home Kitchens, which was recently named Creative Business of the Year at the Ribble Valley Business Awards, has also been named as the selected main Second Nature Retailer in the Ribble Valley.

Having forged a reputation for first class service, Katie puts the customer at the heart of everything she does, keeping in touch with them and constantly updating her clients on the progress of their new kitchen.

“Katie is simply marvellous when it comes to communicating. She always has the answer to any questions and will make time to talk you through the details,” concludes Julie. “I absolutely love my new kitchen. Everyone who has visited me in my new apartment can’t believe how much bigger the kitchen looks. Friends have said it really does have the wow factor!”
