When a Ribble Valley couple spotted a beautiful farmhouse up for sale just outside the pretty village of Waddington little did they suspect that the property would take them back to their roots.

When they moved into their new home, which had been largely renovated, they discovered that by coincidence the farmhouse had actually been occupied by a family member in the 1800s.

Set in beautiful gardens and with stunning views over the fells, there was one thing that the couple and their two daughters yearned for – a spacious new kitchen that would enable them to enjoy a panoramic view of the countryside beyond as well as providing a practical yet stunning living space.

When they moved in the original kitchen was quite small, however the couple had a good idea as to how it could be opened up, but retaining a separate utility.

They had already heard of Katie Green at Heart of Your Home Kitchens so when they approached the Waddington-based kitchen designer, they had complete confidence in her ability to create something truly beautiful.

The couple recalled: “We like to support local independent businesses and we had full confidence in Katie. She is a fantastic communicator and after a few meetings with her, it was obvious that she has extensive product knowledge.

“She even took us up to Durham to view her supplier’s impressive design centre. When we saw the vast range of beautiful kitchen displays we did actually change our minds.”

“We had also set our sights on a range cooker but Katie wasn’t too keen – everything she had doubts about, she turned out to be right!”

Eventually the couple opted for traditional style Fitzroy cabinetry in Partridge Grey with an elegant Chicstone worktop in Pegasus. An island unit adds practicality and focus to the room while high-tech Neff appliances, including a slide and hide single oven, combination microwave, warming drawer and induction hob have opened up a whole new world for the keen cooks in the family.

While knocking down some walls opened up the kitchen space and created more light it did present one major problem – a difficult to work with space which had an unsightly support beam under the stairs.

“Katie was ingenious, creating a large larder unit that hides the support and creates extra storage.”

Blending seamlessly with the rest of the kitchen, which has bi-fold doors overlooking the garden, the larder unit is also in Partridge Grey.

“Katie has a very relaxed manner but she is ultimately professional. She liaised with the project manager and builder on site. We never had any doubts that the kitchen wouldn’t be stunning. When it came to sizing the island unit Katie was spot on – she is totally honest and has gone above and beyond what we expected. She really knows what she is talking about and has a great eye for detail.”

“When we embarked on this project we wanted a traditional farmhouse kitchen with a modern, contemporary twist and that is exactly what we have got. We are over the moon with Heart of Your Home Kitchens and the work Katie did.”

Having completed work on the farmhouse kitchen, Katie, who has a stunning showroom at Backridge Farm Business Centre in Waddington, said: “It was a pleasure to design and oversee the installation of this beautiful kitchen. I am absolutely thrilled with my finished design, which really complements the stunning new extension at this lovely Ribble Valley farmhouse property.

“I am delighted that my clients are ‘over the moon’ with their brand new Heart of Your Home Kitchen. My aim is to offer a complete personalised design and installation service. This challenging project gave me the ideal platform to deliver on this philosophy.”
