CREATE LONGRIDGE IS BACK

The art and crafts event that is Create Longridge is set to be even bigger and better than last year!

Following the phenomenal response from visitors, artists and locals at last year’s event, Create Longridge is returning to the historic town this summer. The 15th July 2017 will once again see the town through the eyes of artists both professional and amateur. Once more the artists will choose their subject from a three-mile radius of Longridge town centre and create their pieces in a style and media of their choice. Each artist will compete for a first prize of an incredible £2,000.

Create Longridge took place for the first time in September last year. The event was a huge success with a total of 65 artists taking part and the day was even featured on BBC1 as part of ‘Inside Out’. Last year a variety of fringe events also surrounded the main painting competition and this year will be no different with an ongoing programme of activities currently being developed by the Create Longridge team.

This year will also include a full schools’ programme: “Everyone really enjoyed the day last year, despite the weather,” said Alistair Sheret of Longridge Gallery. “For Longridge to be featured on BBC1 was brilliant for the town and its businesses!”

The artists will have all day to create their artwork and at the end of the day the panel of judges will decide who will be awarded first, second and third prizes. In addition, 2017 will see the introduction of a new prize, the Exhibition Visitor’s Prize. After the artists’ work has been judged, the paintings will be displayed for visitors to vote for their favourite. The art will be exhibited in Longridge Gallery and potentially other venues and will be available for purchase for a week after the event.

Create Longridge offers a perfect day of family fun in the picturesque town, so even if you don’t have an eye for detail and aren’t an artist, why not just go along and enjoy the buzzing atmosphere. Visitors can watch the talented artists from one of the town’s cafes or stroll along the high street and visit Longridge’s many independent shops and boutiques.

Create Longridge would not be possible without the support of sponsors. If anyone would like to become a sponsor and be associated with the event, please get in touch. Many artists have already been confirmed – watch this space for updates and developments. It is expected that there will be many new faces in 2017, with plenty of regular contributors too!
