Dan’s 2020 Vision

Is a visit to one of the Seven Wonders of the World on your must do list for this year?

If your vision for 2020 is to be more adventurous and also to do your bit to help others, then charity Rosemere Cancer Foundation has a plan to help you make the year your best yet.

This coming October, chief officer Dan Hill has booked to take a team of supporters from Preston to Peru for a 10-day expedition to the spectacular Incan citadel of Machu Picchu.

Set high in the Andes, it means trekking ancient forest and mountain paths to reach the 15th century fortified city, which became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983 and was voted one of the New Seven Wonders of the World in a 2007 worldwide Internet poll.

Dan, 37, is now looking to build his team for the trip of a lifetime. Dan said: “In 2018, Rosemere Cancer Foundation undertook its first ever supporter expedition to the Great Wall of China.

“We were a group of 16. We all funded ourselves but asked family, friends and work colleagues to sponsor us on our six-day adventure and so raised more than £30,000 to help fund projects benefitting local cancer patients.”

Dan continued: “I can honestly say we had a fantastic time. A number of those from the China trip have already signed up for our Peru expedition. Ideally, I would like team Rosemere to be at least 20-strong for this longer expedition, which features on so many people’s dream destination lists.”

Ahead of the trip, Dan has planned a series of training walks to help not only with fitness but also, bonding. These are scheduled for May, June, July and September, taking in the moorlands of Darwen and Tockholes, Pendle Hill, the Lakeland Fells and Arnside Knott.

The journey to Peru starts with coach travel to Heathrow for a flight to Cusco on 22nd October. All transport, hotel accommodation, meals on the trek, water, local guides, tour leader, UK doctor and camping equipment, excepting sleeping bags and mats, are included in the expedition’s cost, which is dependent on numbers but anticipated to be £2,395 – £2,595. The party returns to the UK on 31st October.
