Dine In Style
Jules is the brand-new stylish restaurant at Mytton Fold Hotel, and I was lucky enough to go along and sample the amazing menu, writes Gail Bailey
The concept of new restaurant Jules was to bring a city feel to the Ribble Valley and to create a contemporary light and airy space. And as you enter, the vibrant colours, including rich greens and orange, really do immediately set the tone. Restaurant Manager Alex Szkodzinski says: “Owner Colin Mustoe and the whole team spent time creating Jules with a real attention to detail, to enhance the customer experience from the moment you enter.”
Executive Chef Ian Kershaw has been at Mytton Fold for nearly three years and is excited to be a key part of the new venture: “We have completely overhauled the menus,” he says. “We now have a much more varied offering including an extensive lunch and a la carte menu, a brand-new brunch menu, a full plant-based option, hand-stretched pizzas along with Sunday lunch and afternoon tea options too.
“We wanted to meet the needs of all our customers and this includes corporate business clients for lunch or dinner, our hotel guests and diners and as we are only across the road from a school, we really want families to come along and dine with us too.”
Jules at Mytton Fold is proud to be able to showcase a high level of locally sourced produce across the menus including family-run farm butcher Penny’s Meats, famous master butchers Cowman’s of Clitheroe and Clitheroe’s finest fishmonger, Wellgate Fisheries.
Some of the key dishes on the menu are delicious hand-stretched pizzas with the dough and sauces all made in Jules’ kitchen and topped with a tasty range of fresh and local ingredients such as buffalo mozzarella, tomato and honey roast ham or wild mushrooms, tomato, red onion and truffle oil.
As we entered the restaurant to sample first-hand the wonderful dishes at Jules, we were warmly greeted and shown to our table and immediately felt relaxed and happy to be there. As I am a vegetarian and my partner a pescatarian, we often have limited choices when we dine out – but not at Jules, there was a wide offering across the menus and we chose well! We shared starters of salt and pepper cauliflower combined perfectly with a soy and ginger dipping sauce along with a crisp taco bowl which was so fresh and tasty – especially as it was accompanied with spiced tomato, guacamole and vegan feta.
Our main courses were equally mouthwatering as I chose crisp tofu in a kombu dashi broth with chilli and rice noodles – a perfect flavour combination. My partner opted for the wholesome Lancashire fish pie which included cod, smoked haddock and salmon – a delicious mix of classic seafood flavours served with buttered greens and warm ciabatta.
As we both have a sweet tooth we were spoilt for choice with the dessert menu. I opted for the apple crumble which was recommended by restaurant manager Alex and I was pleasantly surprised that it comprised of a whole warm baked apple sitting on an oat and cinnamon crumble which was unbelievably tasty that I didn’t want it to come to an end! It was served with a sweet and classic vanilla ice cream, and I would highly recommend diners to try it.
My partner chose the great British favourite Arctic roll, which was made with dark chocolate and served with an orange gel, milk ice cream and a chocolate soil – this was incredibly tasty and also a work of art on the plate – it both looked and tasted amazing!
Chef Ian’s favourite on the menu is a pork tasting dish which features a bacon wrapped pork fillet, slow cooked shoulder and Madeira braised pig’s cheek, served on a bed of buttery mashed potato with wilted spinach: “It’s flavourful, delicious and something that you might not expect to see on the Jules menu – but we’re full of surprises!” he says.
With a seasonal afternoon tea on offer boasting sweet treats all hand-crafted onsite by the in-house pastry chef, there really is something to suit every palate.
Ian adds: “We know Jules Restaurant will become a go-to destination for fabulous food and atmosphere in the Ribble Valley and we can’t wait to welcome everyone.”
