Rossendale is loved by all who know and live in it – it is an area that is unique with breath-taking rural scenery surrounding towns and villages that are vibrant and full of character.

Visitors to the area also come to love it – mostly for the warm welcome they receive from people who are genuinely proud of the area in which they live and work.

Made up of cluster of delightful towns and villages, the Rossendale Valley has a wealth of cultural attractions as well as a host of independent shops and boutiques for a unique shopping experience.

The largest towns in Rossendale are Haslingden, Bacup and Rawtenstall, famed for its on-trend independent boutiques and shops.

Rossendale is twinned with Bocholt in Germany – one of the UK’s oldest twinning arrangements – the oldest being Bristol and Hanover. Since the twinning in 1958, Rossendale now has more than 50 groups making contact with similar organisations in Bocholt.

Travelling to and from Rossendale couldn’t be easier. Situated in the heart of England’s North West, Rossendale is centrally located for Lancashire, Yorkshire, Merseyside and Cheshire and close to the M60, M61, M62, M65 and M66.

For arts and culture fans the valley has several galleries and theatres showcasing prestigious exhibitions and thrilling performances. Rossendale boasts a fascinating history and is home to many museums which exhibit the valley’s industrial and cultural heritage.

Why not take a ride on a traditional steam train or enjoy the great outdoors and embark on one of the many countryside walks. Fancy a challenge? Then take the Rossendale Way, a 42-mile footpath around the boundary of the borough. See the giant sculptures and enjoy the spectacular Pennine Lancashire scenery along the way.

There is never a dull moment in this area as there are regular fairs and festivals to celebrate different events throughout the year – the area is also famed for its World Black Pudding Throwing Championship!
