In addition, fellow Upper Sixth student, Charlotte Cross, was awarded the Lord-Lieutenants’ Certificate of Meritorious Service for Cadets. A fantastic achievement, Reuben and Charlotte.

Musicians hitting the right notes
An innovative music project will see a group of University of Central Lancashire students and graduates release four singles in the next four weeks. David Shurr, Ike James, John Kirby and Matt Hall will release their musical works to the world thanks to the UCLan Recordings Group, an in-house record label based on the Preston Campus. Music industry professional Tony Rigg, helped set up UCLan’s music industry masters’ programmes and UCLan Recordings.

Harvest Festival
Children in Years 3 and 4 at Westholme School took part in a very special assembly to celebrate the Harvest Festival. The week leading up to the event children, staff and parents collected food to donate to the Blackburn Food Bank to help the local community. The students spent time preparing and learning their poems, readings, songs and prayers to celebrate the festival with themes of generosity and kindness.

Stonyhurst pupil releases new single
Stonyhurst is thrilled that one of its Year 13 pupils, alongside fellow band members, will be launching a new single ‘Blackbird’ on 20th November. Since launching their first single ‘Taking Over’ in 2018 they have been signed to a national development label, MAS Records. Paddy, a Stonyhurst pupil, is the drummer in the band and has worked incredibly hard to balance his studies alongside band practice and gigs across the region.

Students quiz Hollywood royalty
A privileged group of writers from UCLan jumped at the chance to quiz some of the biggest names in the acting world. Students on the BA (Hons) Screenwriting and MA Scriptwriting courses took part in an online question and answer session with award-winning performers Sir Anthony Hopkins and Olivia Colman CBE. The hour-long live session was organised by BAFTA and involved the actors, plus film director Florian Zeller as they discussed their new film The Father.

Westholme will remember
Every year, children at Westholme Infant School take part in a poppy competition to raise money for the Royal British Legion. This year, they were asked to design their own poppies and the staff were amazed and delighted by the entries received in each year group. Children coloured and collaged poppies which will be displayed in school. The event was a great success in helping Westholme to raise money for such a worthy cause.
