Enjoy Summer In Style

Gastropub the Rum Fox is the perfect place to enjoy the summer months with wonderful food in stylish surroundings, writes Gail Bailey

“The beautiful garden room with its innovative, retractable roof is the ideal spot to enjoy the summer sun,” says chef patron of the Rum Fox, Bob Geldeard. “We are lucky to have fabulous views over Pendle and it’s the ideal place to relax, unwind and sample some of the sensational summer menus and new dishes we’ve created.”

And there is plenty to choose from at the popular gastropub. Whether it’s an early bird meal, a lovely long lunch, a romantic dinner or even a ‘stop off’ after a walk in the Ribble Valley countryside, the menu continually evolves: “We’ve extended our two or three course set menu from lunch time into the early evenings on Wednesday and Thursday between 5pm and 6.30pm,” explains Bob.

There is the now also the added choice of a luxury sandwich made with award-winning sourdough from Kendal bakery, Lovingly Artisan: “We only ever use the finest ingredients and products in all our dishes and Lovingly Artisan are famous for their natural ingredients and their passion to make and bake true bread,” explains Bob.

A walk along the River Ribble or over Grindleton Fell, followed by a three cheese and onion toasted sandwich, a beef and blue cheese on sourdough or a Wellgate Fisheries smoked salmon bagel is a recipe for a perfect day – and even better if accompanied by a chilled glass of wine or a local craft ale!

Recent winners of the Best New Tourism Business Award at the Lancashire Tourism Awards, the Rum Fox has also become an extremely popular place for private birthday and wedding celebrations: “We have parties in our restaurant, garden room or occasionally the entire venue,” explains Bob. But for those wanting a luxury private dining experience there is nowhere better than the intimate Den dining space, which can cater for up to 10 people enjoying dishes from the weekly changing menu or something bespoke created by Bob.

With comfortable armchairs, open stonework and large dining tables, the Rum Fox has quickly become one of the area’s most popular dining venues and Bob’s menus continue to delight and surprise. The popular Wine Club will also resume this summer when at the beginning of August, Richard Bracken from Milestone Wines will be in attendance: “Our Wine Club events have quickly sold out when we first introduced them,” says Bob. “Customers can enjoy a stunning menu created especially for the evening along with the special selection of wines expertly chosen and introduced by Richard.”

The food, the atmosphere and the warm hospitality has been wowing guests since the opening of the Rum Fox last year and with a recent addition of their very own allotment in the village, there will be the added bonus of Rum Fox’s homegrown herbs, gooseberries and raspberries to add an extra summer twist to your plate.
