EXCITING NEW ERA

The appointment of Dr Richard Robson as Westholme’s sixth Principal sees the beginning of an exciting new era at the school

The Governors of Westholme School are delighted to announce the appointment of Dr Richard Robson as Principal, commencing the role in January 2021.

The successful appointment, from an exceptionally strong field, prepares for the departure of current Principal, Mrs Lynne Horner, who has led the school through a period of significant change and development over the last seven years.

Chairman of Governors, Brian Marsden commented: “Dr Robson is an outstanding educational leader who is perfectly qualified to build on Mrs Horner’s success at Westholme. He has enjoyed a highly impressive educational career to date and his youth belies his extensive experience and distinguished reputation in the sector”

“Previously the Headmaster of two independent HMC schools, St. Bede’s in Manchester and Woodbridge in Suffolk, he brings an admirable record of pupil achievement and a deep commitment to excellence in every aspect of school life. His strong leadership skills are enhanced by his wider educational expertise. Working as an ISI Inspector for over 10 years, serving on national committees and completing a Doctorate in Education have clearly given Dr Robson a fully rounded view of best practice in the independent school sector.”

“We are thrilled he has chosen to return to the North, where he has family roots, to lead our school into the exciting next chapter. As we approach our centenary, we are all keen to see Westholme continue to evolve, adapt and thrive. We have every confidence that Dr Robson is precisely the person to do this.”

Dr Robson is equally honoured to be joining Westholme at such a pivotal time. He said: “Westholme is a wonderful school and the family values and caring ethos it promotes attracted me instantly. You have a feel for a school very quickly and I could immediately see how the commitment to the development of the whole child matched my own educational philosophy”

“Every aspect of a holistic education with the child at the centre is key and I was impressed to see how well Westholme brings together the three pillars of academic rigour, creative and performing arts and sporting endeavour.”

“The warmth and energy of the school are so evident and I am really passionate about becoming part of the vibrant community. I look forward to meeting all the students, staff and parents when the world has become less socially distant! Westholme has an incredibly bright future ahead and it is a genuine privilege to have the opportunity to steer a school where children come first.”
