EXCITING TIMES AHEAD

Lisa Goodwin-Allen, executive chef of Michelin-starred Northcote restaurant tells Sarah Varley about her lockdown projects and the exciting new Northcote offerings

As well as enjoying family time with her husband, five-year-old son Teddy Ray and new puppy Frank the sausage dog, Northcote’s executive chef Lisa Goodwin-Allen has had a busy lockdown.

“We have been looking at different ways to bring the Northcote taste and experience to customers at home,” says Lisa. “Northcote at Home offers you the ultimate dinner party at home. You select three or five courses from our menu and one of our chefs will come and cook for you and your guests. We provide a waiter, the option of a sommelier and your choice from our extensive wine list, as well as all the crockery and cutlery.”

Northcote at Home can cater for celebrations of up to 50 guests in your home and larger events on request.

The new Northcote Click and Collect also brings customers luxury, traditional food at its very best as Lisa explains: “There are favourite starters such as a platter of hams, Northcote cheese bread and half a side of Gravlax. Mains include luxury pies including seafood using the very best scallops, prawns and salmon, or beef and ale using amazing local beef and locally brewed ale. The pies come in ovenware dishes for you to keep – you just have to turn on your oven!”

Lisa has also been working with Wellocks at Home on a Northcote Virtual Dining Experience for the weekend of 31st July. “You can create a fine-dining three-course meal in your own kitchen with a luxury box of all the quality ingredients you will need and a link to a digital masterclass with me cooking each course,” Lisa explains.

During lockdown Lisa also worked with Blackburn Youth Zone to support over 4,000 people via the Zone to Home campaign. Over 500 boxes containing ingredients for a meal for four, with step-by-step instructions by Lisa, were distributed to young people and their families.

“Northcote and Blackburn Youth Zone have always worked closely together. To be able to collaborate and create a nutritious recipe for families was something that I had to be involved with,” Lisa says.

Lisa has also been busy creating new menus for Northcote, ready for re-opening on 29th July. Lisa’s Summer Five-Course Gourmet Menu celebrates some of the best produce of the season, including Isle of Wight tomatoes and Lake District lamb, onion sausage and sheep’s curd from Leagram Organic Dairy just a few miles from Northcote. Lisa’s Strawberry Trifle concludes this celebration of summer produce, using organic strawberries from Annabel Makin-Jones’s Yorkshire farm.

“We have tried to use lots of British and local produce to help local businesses through this difficult time,” says Lisa. “British farmers and growers have done a fantastic job feeding the nation and we really wanted to showcase all their amazing produce.”
