EXQUISITE, ELEGANT, EXCLUSIVE

Moorhouse Interiors produce truly bespoke soft furnishing, have some beautiful exclusive in-house designs and the most luxurious doggy beds imaginable, writes Susan Osborne

It’s a joy to discover items uniquely, artistically designed and produced from quality local materials using local skills and expertise. The secret of Moorhouse Interiors is out.

Founder and owner, Haldis Stephenson, graduated from Central Saint Martins London with a BA in textile design, and worked for Philip Treacy hats in London and Paris, before travelling with theatre groups as costume designer and finally settling in Lancashire, designing for local firm, Art of the Loom.

Her workshop/studio in the picturesque village of Chipping, is the hub of Moorhouse Interiors, specialising in bespoke, stylish, hand-made soft furnishings from a vast range of fabric suppliers including, Zoffany, Sandersons, Harlequin and many more. Haldis is happy to work with clients’ own fabrics too.

“We like to use our own interlinings and linings because we know the quality of the base, but we will work with most clients’ fabrics, subject to suitability,” she says.

She offers a full spectrum of interior design options; from a measuring and fitting service covering every room in the house, sourcing painters, decorators and fitters, to a single bespoke item to clients’ own specifications. One-offs are not a problem here, more of a speciality.

In the workshop, hand-printed and hand-painted cushions, fully washable, are deep feather-filled. They are part of an exquisite range of in-house designs produced in collaboration with a local artist. Larger textile items are laid out on a huge flat work surface for hand finishing. All linings are skilfully hand-stitched to curtains and blinds using finest quality materials and threads.

The workshop takes in work for other local designers at busy times such as Christmas, as well as producing Moorhouse Interiors’ own orders.

“It’s important to me to use local materials and local people, to support local businesses.”

Haldis has stayed true to company ethics with her latest product, a bespoke, hand-crafted oak dog bed, made by a local craftsman and perfectly complemented with a specially-designed Moorhouse dog-friendly bedding cushion, containing a zipped lining with cedar chippings to reduce doggy odours, and a crumb memory foam filling for warmth and comfort. The bed height is low off the ground so older pets with arthritis can easily climb in and snuggle down. An optional oak name plaque can be added to the frame. The fully washable Moorhouse dog-bed cushion can be ordered separately and in any size.

The beds can be ordered in any size too. A truly bespoke gift for your canine companion.

Haldis keeps up to date with current trends, hence a recent trip to King’s Road, London. “It’s good to get first-hand information,” she explains.

Indeed, Moorhouse collections are certainly highly desirable and right on trend in a selection of beautifully co-ordinating soft tones, with some fun and different designs being produced for the Christmas collection.
