Feeling Festive At The Barn

The Owd Barn Country Store, Gift Shop and Tea Rooms, is celebrating its new mezzanine floor with a Christmas shopping evening, writes Susan Osborne. Photography: Paul Currie

Retaining its rustic charm, the refurbished 16th century Owd Barn is brimming with gift ideas this season.

The farm shop is bursting with festive goodies, home-grown produce and other locally sourced seasonal veg. There’s still time to pick up home-grown pumpkins and some locally made treacle toffee for Halloween but don’t forget to order your turkey, meat and veg in time for Christmas, along with any other naughty Christmas treats.

Upstairs, the home and gift loft is packed with delightful accessories and festive gift ideas. New for the season, Treaty’s casual clothing range, fine-knit ladies’ jumpers and capes by Marble are complemented by Treaty jewellery and Powder accessories, featuring beautifully soft scarves and hats.

Christmas decorations, candles and cosy winter throws by Tweedmill, plus a selection of vintage board games and crafts, make Christmas shopping a pleasure. The new stationery section offers diaries, planners and jotters along with a new range of great book titles.

Browsing prints and originals from local artist Winston Higham, lamps, cushions and cosy rugs, you arrive at the new mezzanine floor. Focusing on home interior and furniture, it displays dining tables, chairs and beautifully up-cycled cabinets.

Below, the fire accessory area tempts you with log baskets, fire companion sets, unique rustic fire pits and decorative ornaments. Here, you find the ever-popular tractors and farm toys by Siku and Britains, great for little ones (and adults too).

The ground floor also displays top branded country clothing; Jack Murphy’s new winter range of ladies’ leather gillets and tweed jackets, and a range of Hoggs of Fife men’s clothing and footwear to keep you warm and dry.

The Tea Rooms has a delicious menu of traditional farmhouse meals and home-made cakes to warm you up over these cold winter months. Serving breakfasts from 10.30am till 11.30am, main meals from 12.00pm till 3.00pm and tea, coffee and cakes till 4.30pm.

Sunday roast dinners are very popular but booking is recommended if you wish to try one of these to avoid any disappointment.

Be sure to catch these upcoming events:
