Festive Line Up
As Christmas approaches and the dark, wintry nights are here to stay, Tim Dixon, Fylde Council’s Tourism and Cultural Services Manager gives us the lowdown on what to look out for in the Fylde
How this year has flown by and we now find ourselves in the festive period! It’s been a very busy year full of events taking place all over Fylde from the popular Lytham Festival, the St Annes Kite Festival, the St Annes Music Festival, the Lytham 1940s Weekend and Club/Gala Days around the area. Plus, we’ve had a packed programme at the Lowther Pavilion, Fairhaven Lake and also Lytham Hall, not to mention lighting the beacon at Fairhaven Lake for the 80th anniversary of the D Day landings back in June.
Coming up very shortly, the town centres in Fylde will have Christmas lights or events to start the festive period – Lytham on 16th November, Kirkham on 23rd November and St Annes on 30th November – these being organised by the hard-working business or community groups to bring a festive cheer to start this very special time of year. There will once again be many Christmas markets in village or community halls, schools and more, so keep an eye out on Facebook, or those we know about we will post on our events listings page (see web link below).
Lytham Hall is always a special place to visit at any time of year, but during the festive season when decorated with the most fabulous Christmas displays, it really is something else! They have some great events listed on their own website, plus you can always walk around the grounds, enjoy refreshments at the café or perhaps enjoy a festive tasty treat. They update their website very frequently so do keep an eye as to what’s in store.
This year’s panto at the Lowther Pavilion in Lytham is Snow White and runs from 2nd December to 4th January and is a wonderful family trip out with plenty of laughs and fun guaranteed for an unforgettable experience. Tickets are available via the Lowther Pavilion website. They have a packed programme through November and December including brass, comedy, cinema, country and jazz to name but a few. There really is something for everyone.
Do visit the independent shops all around Fylde – they can offer that personal touch and you can get those presents ideal for the Christmas lists – whether home-made gifts, chocolates and housewares, plus there’s a Shop Local in Fylde Loyalty card with details at investinfylde.co.uk.
