FIRST CLASS RESULTS

Westholme School has been celebrating over the summer after receiving excellent exam results

Students and staff at Westholme School were delighted with their examination results again this year. At A Level, a 100 per cent pass rate in 20 subjects was celebrated, representing the hard work of students. The school has also achieved an excellent 68 per cent A*-C pass rate, with 13 per cent achieving grades at A*-A. These results demonstrate the dedication of students and the outstanding levels of support provided by the teachers.

It was particularly pleasing to see that the A*s came in a wide variety of subjects with particularly strong results in core subjects like Maths, English and Sciences.

The results mean that the vast majority of students have the university or high-level apprenticeship place of their choice, which again underlines their talents. Students are looking forward to pursuing further studies in subjects such as Medicine, Law, Engineering and International Business. Other courses that students are embarking upon include Fine Art, Acting, Theatre Lighting, Graphic Design and Fashion – a diverse range of courses reflecting the breadth of talent within the Sixth Form!

Principal Lynne Horner praised students and staff alike for their hard work and dedication: “With A Level reforms fully embedded now, examination papers this year were undoubtedly challenging and the results achieved by our Upper Sixth students reflect their resilience and ambition. I am very proud of their achievements and within the school community where they made such wonderful contributions over many years. I wish them all the very best for the future, beyond Westholme.”

Just one week later, GCSE results proved to be another reason to celebrate. Students rejoiced with friends, family and staff in the Sixth Form Centre at school and were looking forward to embarking on their Sixth Form journey, further education and career paths.

Mrs Horner said: “With over 42 per cent of grades achieved at grades 9-7 it’s clear that our students have worked very hard, fulfilling their academic potential. Overall value added calculations show outcomes averaged a full grade higher than baseline predictions for individual students.

“More than a quarter of our Year 11s achieved at least seven grades at 7 or above with no grade lower than a 6 – a tremendous effort and I am very proud of them all. Teachers have also continued to rise to the challenge of exam reform, embracing the changes and increased rigour. Well done to the Year 11 Westholme class of 2019!”

Westholme’s Year 11 students have secured high grades in the main core subjects, with one student achieving an A** in Additional Maths – which is an exceptional outcome.

A high proportion of students are continuing their studies at Westholme School Sixth Form in diverse subjects such as Classics, French, Economics and the Sciences.

The Principal commended Year 11: “Well done on your achievements both in these GCSEs and other aspects of school life. You are a talented group of young people in and out of the classroom and we wish you the very best for a bright future.”
