FOLLOWING THE DREAM

After achieving impressive exam results students at St Mary’s College are now pursuing their chosen career paths

Delighted students at St Mary’s College were celebrating excellent exam results enabling them to go on to their first-choice universities and top apprenticeship placings.

The College achieved a superb 100 per cent pass rate in 26 subjects with 84 per cent of vocational students and 57 per cent of A Level students achieving high grades.

Ribble Valley students were among the high achievers at the College with Katie Duxbury, Sacha Leak, Johnathan Greenwood and Corey Thomas all gaining top grades allowing them to go on to prestigious universities and secure competitive apprenticeships across the UK.

With St Mary’s College offering students the chance to study for A Levels, vocational BTECs or a mixture of the two, Sacha is now going on to study Sociology & Criminology, Johnathan is studying Computer Science & Artificial Intelligence, Katie is studying to become a paramedic and Corey has secured one of the leading Business Apprenticeships at BAE.

Interim principal Elissa Best said: “The staff at St Mary’s are passionate about teaching and learning and I am delighted that the examination results make St Mary’s one of the best sixth form providers in the area.

These excellent results, alongside the College’s recent Ofsted report are further evidence of the college’s journey to ‘outstanding’.”

WORLD OF MEDICINE
Ambar Siddique has her sights set on studying Medicine after achieving three As in Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics from St Mary’s. She is taking a gap year to travel the world, before taking up her place at university. During her time at the College, she undertook a placement at Blackburn Royal Hospital, worked with numerous charities and was twice elected as the Youth MP, Head of Student Council and Student Governor. A keen sportswoman, Ambar said: “The teachers at St Mary’s are really passionate about their subjects. All our lessons have been motivating and inspiring.”

AT THE DOUBLE
Twin brothers Ellis and Alex Woods have both gained places at Manchester University. Between them they gained an A*, A, three Bs and a C to secure their university places. Ellis will study International Business & Economics while Alex will study Biochemistry. The brothers agree: “The teachers at St Mary’s really know how to bring out the best in students. We have really enjoyed our time at the College and are now looking forward to experiencing university life in Manchester.”

BOURNE FOR SUCCESS
St Mary’s student Olivia Bourne will soon be taking her place at Brasenose College, Oxford, to read Biochemistry (Molecular & Cellular) after receiving fantastic A Level results. Olivia received an impressive three A*s and an A having studied Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and the Extended Project Qualification at St Mary’s College. “It’s a dream come true to get a place at Oxford!” said Olivia. “My teachers at St Mary’s have been so supportive and have always found ways to push me to get the grades I wanted, I can’t thank them enough.”
