‘If we can eat together we can live together’ was the slogan for the Feast for Peace festival which was held last month on Preston Flag market. Hundreds of people came along to celebrate diversity and to tuck into some amazing food from around the world. The second annual Feast for Peace brought people from all nations together in the Flag Market and Harris Museum.
UK’S TOP FISH FRYER
Brett Coulton, from Black’s Finest Fish & Chips, in Halton, near Lancaster has been shortlisted for the Drywite Young Fish Fryer of the Year Award. The 20-year-old has faced a rigorous judging process, undergoing exam questionnaires and interviews conducted by senior industry experts. The winner will be announced at The National Fish & Chip Awards’ 30th anniversary ceremony in London in January 2018.
LOCAL WINE COMPANY SIGNS NEW DEAL
Silver Fox Wines in Cleveleys has signed a new agency deal with an international distributor Italy on Tap. It is to be the agent for the Glera Grape, (the Prosecco grape.) Italy on Tap’s Glera is already available in a few local venues including The Continental, Preston. Silver Fox Wines import kegs of 24 litres allowing Glera to be served on draught around Lancashire.
COFFEE HOUSE REFURBISHMENT
Town House Coffee and Brew Bar in Friargate, Preston has recently reopened its doors after a refurbishment. The coffee shop turned to crowdfunding to fund its refurbishment. Thanks to the generosity of supporters, the business is back serving up healthier options to shoppers, office workers and students in the university quarter of the city.
ST CATHERINE HOSPICE
UK company FareShare aims to save good food destined for waste and send it to charities who transform it into nutritious meals. The surplus food from FareShare means patients at St Catherine’s Hospice in Lostock Hall can have a variety of ingredients and meals to choose from. The food helps towards the hospice providing four meals a day to its in patients and lunches for patients of its day therapy unit.
A new dessert restaurant has recently opened in Preston city centre. Kaspa’s desserts has opened its premises in the empty unit under the Premier Inn on Fox Street. The now nation chain of dessert restaurants offers customers mouth-watering selection of ice creams, gelatos, waffles, crepes, milkshakes, smoothies and sundaes.
