FOOD & DRINK AWARD WINNERS
James’ Places venues scooped a quintet of awards in the space of a week. Bowland Brewery received two awards in the SIBA Northwest Independent Beer Awards at Bolton’s Macron Stadium. The brewery’s Buster IPA took a Bronze Award while the complex Dragonglass took Gold in the Cask Strong Beer Class. Bowland Food Hall won Independent Retailer of the Year in the Lancashire Life Food Awards, Eaves Hall won Lancashire Best Kept Village – Best Hotel/Guest House while the Waddington Arms won LateRooms.com/eviivo.com – Special Recognition Award. Lesley-Anne Stevens, General Manager of Mitton Hall Hotel was named a finalist in Lancashire Business View Sub 36 Leader Awards.

FLAGSHIP RESTAURANT
To celebrate the launch of the new flagship Olive Tree Brasserie in October, Lytham restaurateur Dean Wilson, 32, opened his brand new site in style with live music, delicious Greek canapés and fizz, at the former Nat West Bank building which has had a £500,000 make-over. Dean said: “This new site signals a big step in a positive direction for the brand and I’m looking forward to what the future has in store too.”

LET’S BAKE!
With over 10 years’ experience and an award-winning baker heading up the team, Sugar & Layer offer various baked goods to suit everyone including a ‘free from’ range. You can also find party and baking essentials, from baking equipment to birthday cards and candles. The New Year will also see the launch of a new cookery and cake decorating school, offering classes and courses to teach you how to become the next Mary Berry!

COOKING MASTERCLASS
Leading TV chef Tim Maddams showcased the cooking credentials of ESSE’s super-efficient electric stoves in a hands-on cookery demonstration at ESSE’s factory showroom in Barnoldswick. Tim’s menu included roast potatoes, seared pigeon breast, a cote de boeuf and a delicious home-baked focaccia, quickly being devoured by the appreciative 50-strong audience. “The great thing about cooking with an ESSE is the all-round heat evenness that convects around the oven really well,” said Tim, who regularly uses ESSE products.

MICHELIN STAR RETAINED
The annual Michelin Star announcements for 2019 revealed that Northcote retained their Michelin Star for the 23rd consecutive year. Testimony to Executive Chef Lisa Goodwin-Allen’s skill in the kitchen, it is the first time Lisa has received the Michelin star in her own right. The team are incredibly proud of her and are honoured to be among the longest holders of a Michelin star in the new guide.
