FORGING AHEAD

Sarah Varley catches up with David Brunt and Jeremy Bernstein of Markham Webber Design to see how things are progressing at their newly acquired Clitheroe showroom

Exciting times indeed for the team at Markham Webber as the entire showroom on Parson Lane, Clitheroe is undergoing renovations and old displays are being replaced with new, state-of-the-art Leicht kitchens.

“The refit is progressing really well,” says David Brunt – the team have rolled up their sleeves and designed five new stunning displays, working alongside the existing installation teams and getting to know new and old customers alike.”

“Things are moving fast with two of the old kitchens already out – allowing us to fit and showcase new flooring. The new displays will arrive in the next two weeks with the first being ready by Easter.”

Markham Webber Design already has a successful showroom and a subsidiary business in Wilmslow, Cheshire and David and business partner Jeremy Bernstein are delighted to be growing their enterprise into the Ribble Valley and bringing the Leicht brand to the area.

“It’s something new for the Ribble Valley,” enthuses Jeremy. “We’re excited to be showcasing this fabulous brand. Being the only Leicht studio in the area we can provide something a bit different, which is important for our clients. Leicht kitchens have all the quality, reliability and engineering you would expect from a German manufacturer, and once the showroom is complete its going to be absolutely stunning.”

Continuing in the business is showroom manager and award-winning designer Claire Kelly –who, with a degree in interior design and spending her working life designing kitchens, brings a wealth of experience and project management to Markham Webber Design. Claire is ably assisted by Caitlin Nuttall, a local lady with a business degree that allows her to improve and innovate current systems for the benefit of not only the Ribble Valley showroom but the entire group. “With Claire and Caitlin at the helm we know we will continue the strong service and communication ethos for which we are renowned,” adds David.

As work progresses in the showroom David, Jane and Jeremy are looking forward to bringing Leicht displays to life, the first being a fully-working kitchen fitted in the latest Leicht range, with the latest NEFF appliances including an induction hob with integrated extraction, the renowned NEFF slide and hide ovens and Dekton worktops – all ready for a packed calendar of cookery demonstrations and activities over the coming year.

First founded as a carpenter’s worktop in 1928, some 90 years later Leicht is one of the top 10 manufacturers in the German kitchen industry. In 2017 Leicht was again the only manufacturer of kitchens to be awarded the Most Innovative Brand of the Year accolade as well as being the best-selling premium brand in Germany.

“The showroom is open for business as usual while all this work is done,” David tells me. “But we just wanted to get things started here in the Ribble Valley and work with the process. We want people to come and see how things are progressing so we can keep them posted on what we are up to. All the samples and brochures are here ready and when it’s all complete we’re planning a big party! The resulting studio is going to be completely different to what was here before – and we can’t wait to show it off.”
