Get Organised

With the Christmas holidays on the horizon, now is the time to organise some much-needed kitchen storage space ahead of the festive season

With our homes filled with the warm scents of mulled wine and Christmas cake, the kitchen often becomes the main attraction as family and friends convene during the holiday season. The kitchen and pantry are rarely top of the list when it comes to decorating, but you can easily bring extra warmth, joy and magic to the season by adding Christmas décor to these hard-working spaces. With a little bit of prep and organising before the festive season begins, you can also reduce the stress that the holidays can bring.

Your pantry should be the first place to organise for Christmas, whether you are hosting on the day or just wanting to stock up on seasonal treats for your family. First of all, declutter any older items. Easy access, shallow shelving means you never have to rummage for dusty, outdated cans again.

Dedicate a section of your pantry specifically for Christmas items and arrange into categories such as baking ingredients, canned goods, snacks, beverages and festive treats. It makes it easier to locate items quickly during the rush.

Clear storage is the best method for items such as flour, sugar, grains and seasonal treats, so you can tell at a glance and avoid the need to run out for last minute ingredients on Christmas Eve.

It’s a great idea to create a festive shopping list and combined with your designated Christmas zone in your pantry, this will help to streamline your shopping trips and ensure you have all the necessary ingredients for your festive feasts.

You don’t need a huge kitchen to create a pantry. This tiny space was reimagined by the clever designers at The Secret Drawer into a combined pantry and utility room. The resulting hybrid ‘pantility’ is a marvel of handcrafted cabinetry, ingenuity and space-saving solutions all year round. It has been given a magical, holiday mood-making make-over.

The smaller pantry is optimised by using the vertical space and the ladder on rollers creates easy access to much needed additional storage.

Pull out crate style drawers provide deep spaces with ventilation for vegetables, dried goods and treats like crisps and nuts.

Now you’re organised and ready for the season, it’s time to think about getting the pantry dressed and ready for Christmas. The warm oak of the crate boxes and ‘secret’ cupboards are the perfect foil for the Christmas decorations that add pops of classic red and green. A homely, nostalgic feel is created with a few favourite vintage decorations dotted around, which contrast with the bright, white of the counter top. A sweet station has been created in the cupboard, the perfect place for all those holiday treats. It features mesh doors which allows for air to circulate around freshly baked mince pies, keeping everything in tip top, fresh condition for the season.

Bring the Christmas spirit to every corner of your home and make sure it is merry and bright.
