GET SET FOR SUMMER

Sarah Varley visits Dawsons of Clitheroe – a destination department store for the discerning shopper

Dawsons Department Store in Clitheroe has been a landmark of the town for over 70 years. It is a family business now in its fourth generation, as Mandy Dawson explains: “Mum Judith is still the matriarch with all three children involved. Simon runs the online business, while Stephen runs the Skipton store.”

Mandy runs the Clitheroe store and it really is a great shopping destination for residents and visitors alike, offering more than you may realise.

The Clitheroe location is enviable in the bustling market town, being right opposite the train station with a long-stay car-park just under the bridge, so you don’t have to worry about parking or carrying bulky items far. On three floors, the store is surprisingly spacious and there is lots to browse across the different departments.

“There’s a much bigger choice of garden furniture in store than people realise and we have a great team of knowledgeable staff to help and advise you on the different options,” says Mandy.

Stocking an array of garden furniture including Hartman, Kettler and Alexander Rose, Mandy adds: “Customers are pleasantly surprised by the wide range and the fact that there is something for every price-point. You get to try out the seating for comfort as well as style and we are able to keep our prices down because of our large online presence.”

The extended choice online is huge, as you can see at www.dawsonsdepartmentstore.co.uk and the result for shoppers in-store is affordable luxury on your doorstep with the benefit of staff with a wealth of experience on hand to answer your questions. To make life even easier, delivery is free.

The range of barbeques is again large – great value with covetable brands including Weber, Outback and Napoleon plus the popular camping and caravanning lifestyle range from Cadac. The store holds special demonstration days where you can see the barbecues in action, the next one being in July with expert barbeque chef Richard Holden.

Getting ready for the summer holidays, Dawsons has a range of luggage including Antler and Samsonite at great prices and handbags that are great for travelling including Kipling and Fiorelli, and don’t forget that Dawsons has a decorating centre on its lower floor for those jobs closer to home, with a large paint range including Crown and Dulux and a paint-mixing service.

Another lovely aspect of the store is that it adjoins the fabulous Maxwells cafe-bar so you can break off from your retail therapy for coffee or lunch. The recently refurbished roof-terrace, now available for both food and drinks, makes a fantastic spot for a bit of people watching too! With regular offers throughout the store, pop in next time you’re passing or make a relaxing and indulgent day of it at Dawsons Clitheroe.
