Renovo is one of the few practices in the North West to offer such a high-level of in-house specialist dentistry. The brainchild of Dr Usman Riaz, Ribble Valley-based Renovo Dental has brought together a team of highly-trained specialists and dental practitioners to offer general dentistry, sedation, orthodontics, implants, cosmetic dentistry, root canal therapy and gum disease treatment all under one roof.
“This has been a dream of mine for so long,” says Usman, who as a dental implant surgeon, was one of the youngest dentists to be awarded the Diploma in Implant Dentistry from the prestigious Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh.
“At Renovo Dental being an independent clinic is a massive advantage as we have the full clinical freedom to choose the very best for each patient,” explains Usman.
“Phase 1 of the £1.2 million Renovo project has taken two years to complete and has resulted in a state-of-the-art surgery that has seen Pendle House in Chatburn, transformed. The building has been completely refurbished by local Lancashire tradesmen: “We wanted to use local businesses to give something back.”
With parking and disabled access, Pendle House has been brought back to life by Usman and his team: “The building had lots of character and we were keen to retain this. We have also invested in the best digital technology and the best people,” says Usman.
“The interior has evolved around the work we do here – it is a calm, non-clinical environment, operating under strict infection control and hygiene policy, which is CQC approved. It’s no different to how we carry out our dentistry, with attention to detail being key.”
The specialists at Renovo can treat and stabilise most problems, from gum disease and preventing tooth loss to full mouth rehabilitation with dental implants and bone regenerative treatments. Minimally invasive dentistry is vital to the team, covering all aspects of cosmetic dentistry from clear braces, composite bonding to life-like ‘ultra-natural’ porcelain veneers.
“In some veneer cases, to optimise the results, 0.5mm of enamel reduction will suffice. This is thinner than your nail plate. We then contour and smooth the enamel to correctly bond the porcelain shell. Our aim in each case is to maximise aesthetics with minimum invasion.
“This is bespoke dentistry at its very best. Everybody here has a specialism that they are dedicated to and have worked very hard to achieve. We are a group of like-minded individuals who are thrilled to bring this practice to the Ribble Valley – it’s great to have a place here to showcase our work.”
The experts at Renovo receive many referrals from dentists throughout the North West. They provide the specialist treatment required then refer patients back to their own dentist for routine care. Patients can also refer themselves to Renovo if they feel that a consultation with them will be beneficial, safe in the knowledge that if they require specialist treatment all the expertise is in-house at Renovo.
Also, with the increased use of video calling, the team has noticed a marked increase in demand for aesthetic dentistry treatments, as Usman explains: “We are using technologies to communicate with each other more than we ever have. A lot of people have been using Zoom, Instagram and Facetime so people are spending more time looking at themselves.
“A huge number of clients have mentioned they never really realised how noticeable certain aspects of their smiles were until they had to do video conferencing on a daily basis.
“Purely through referrals from dental colleagues and patient self-referrals, the clinic has been working around the clock. As a new clinic, set up in the midst of a global pandemic, the biggest surprise has been the sheer demand for cosmetic and implant dentistry. The response has been incredible.”
As a Denplan accredited practice, Renovo Dental also provides general day-to-day private dentistry. Children of Denplan registered patients receive free treatment up to the age of 10: “We believe prevention is better than cure. That’s at the heart of our ethos, so our aim is to get the next generation decay-free.”
