Grab a Great Bargain

If you’re looking for an antique, an usual piece of furniture or ornament than a trip to your local auction house could be for you

If you’ve never been to an antique auction room before, it can be quite daunting, but if you are feeling confident to place a bid then you can come away with a great bargain.

Go with an idea in mind of what you are looking for and do your research on prices. Try and see the catalogue beforehand, there may be two or three similar pieces for sale, but they may differ in condition and that will affect the price. You also need to have a budget in mind of what you want to spend and stick to it. It can be very easy to get swept up in the whole bidding process.

Make sure you register as a bidder and you’ll be given a card to show if you want to place a bid. You can also register as a phone bidder if you’re not able to attend. When the hammer comes down and you’ve made the last bid then the item is yours. Make sure you come away with what you want. You don’t want to have accidentally bought something or paid over the odds for it. Don’t forget about the additional premium which is a percentage of the final bid.

There are some beautiful antiques out there, just waiting for a new home. Yours could be one of them.
