One of Lancashire’s most impressive historic, country homes, Browsholme Hall is the oldest family home in Lancashire and has opened its doors to the public for 2024. Visitors can now embark on a tour of the hall, which is set in 600 acres of lush green parkland, rural woodland and more formal gardens with wonderful walks for a great family day out!

TOURS OF BROWSHOLME
Experienced and knowledgeable volunteer guides take visitors on a tour of the hall explaining the history, architecture, art and general points of interest. The original house was built after 1507 and is one of the finest surviving antiquarian interiors in England. There are many and varied interesting items on display that have been collected by the Parker family through the generations.

Tour guides will take visitors behind the scenes to discover the various rooms, artefacts and paintings. Tour times and tickets are available on the website.

GARDENS
Outside the hall visitors can walk along pretty winding paths by the three-acre lake. It’s the perfect spot to take youngsters who can embark on an energetic journey of discovery in the fresh air and parkland. Near to the East Wing is the Long Terrace, Parterre and Yew Walk which is featured in a watercolour by JMW Turner, who visited 200 years ago. Also, within the grounds at Browsholme, is the two-acre, re-imagined Wilderness Garden which was originally in the form of a Union Jack to commemorate the 1707 Act of Union.

CART SHED CAFÉ
Lovingly restored, the Cart Shed Café is located in what was an original unused farm building. It’s the perfect pit stop for visitors on a day out. Enjoy the sunshine outdoors or keep cosy indoors – either way the Cart Shed Café is a welcoming place with a menu that has been devised using first-class local produce. The café’s wonderful team make and bake on-site so visitors can enjoy delicious, seasonal dishes. There are some classic regulars on the menu along with a constantly changing specials board – or simply relax and enjoy a traditional pot of tea and slice of cake. Book in advance to avoid disappointment!

Please note while the café is dog-friendly, they are not allowed in the hall.
