HIGHLY EFFICIENT & ECO FRIENDLY

Lucas Everett, owner of Canterbury Fireplaces, talks to Sarah Varley about the many benefits of eco design ready stoves and his passion for getting the very best from your stove

Canterbury Fireplaces owner Lucas Everett is passionate about the fantastic range of eco design ready stoves on offer and welcomes the Government’s clean air strategy: “Stoves are certainly not being banned, this initiative is a very positive move to reduce smoke emissions through more efficient use and clean-burning technology,” Lucas explains.

“The vast majority of brands we deal with are already compliant way ahead of the 2022 initiative and producing stoves that are even lower in emissions than the government recommendations. “I’m a real stove enthusiast, or geek even, and can always advise on not only the best size and type of fire for your home for optimal heating efficiency, but also the types of wood that work best depending on the type and location of your house,” Lucas states.

“It is very important to use your stove efficiently and with the right wood. We provide advice on this to all customers, taking them through using the stoves and running them to their best efficiency.”

“Wood should always be at less than 20 per cent moisture level, but different woods will perform best if your home is remote or exposed at the top of a hill or if it is in a more residential area. If your house is really tall or a bungalow, this affects what wood to choose, as well as different weather conditions.”

“Kiln dried wood, and species such as ash, beech or birch burn particularly well. Good quality wood with the right moisture content will generate the correct heat, the correct flame and will not emit black or grey smoke.”

“Canterbury Fireplaces are a Stovax Expert Retailer, and Stovax have the largest range of eco design ready stoves in England,” Lucas adds. “These feature clean-burning technology that reduces smoke emissions by up to 90 per cent compared to open fires and 80 per cent compared to an older log burner and represent the future of wood burning.”

“Contura are another brand that place great importance on eco efficiency – all of their stoves already operate under the Ecodesign limits,” Lucas adds.

“Supporting the Government’s Clean Air Strategy, these advanced stoves burn so cleanly they meet, and in many cases exceed, 2022 air quality and efficiency targets and with high efficiency combustion systems, they use 70 per cent less logs than an open fire and 20 per cent less than a standard stove to heat your home.”

“There has been no indication that you will not be able to use a non-eco design stove after 2022,” Lucas confirms. “However, if you are using an open fire or older stove to heat your home, you may wish to consider replacing it with a clean burning, high efficiency model that produces less emissions.”
